Worked for a motel by the airport in Louisville, Ky. in 1966 and the Asst. Manager drove a 63 Corvette Coupe with the Fuel injected engine, 4-speed, positraction rearend. He would have me drive it one Sunday out of the month to the carwash where we had the company station wagon cleaned. He would always tell me how I had to drive it slow and shift it gently, because it had a bad synchronizer in 2nd gear. I wait to get out of site of the motel, then stomp it. Man, would that baby fly.

That is quite a story. What a way to make an instant collectible. One of 59-ship sinks-one of one left in the world.

In 1956 I was 16 working in my Dad's gas station in Rockford, IL 1 Block from a Cadillac / Olds Dealer & 1 block from a Lincoln/ Mercury dealer Got to drive new caddys several times, Dealer needed them washed for new customer, Eldorado Seville, Sedan/Coupe DeVilles. But the one that scared me the most was a 56 Continental Mark II. over $13,000 had gold plated thermos & drinking cups, in the glove box I think. Also had power vent windows. Straight to the wash rack & back, nor across the river like the Caddys got. Still I a GM person.

  9. BUGATTI...... Wow, great, really cool!

Type 40, Oh well, never mind...

Belonged to a good friend of mine, genuine car but the least exciting auto that Bugatti ever built.

At least I can say I have driven one though.

Drove then installed the new monster cable sound system in the 2015 Lamborghini Veneno Roadster. We pitched the idea of a partnership for audio sound systems in the 9 Veneno's in the world at pebble beach concours de' elegance 2013. The car was brought to the Las Vegas the day after Christmas, then spent 6 sleepless night tearing the car apart. The car had no sound system designed into her at all. Once finished we showed the car for the first time in public at the Ces show. When driving the car it felt like driving a spaceship. With only 9 going to be made in the world and a sticker price of 4.5 million dollars, this will be so far the most expensive car I drove and tore apart!

  11. This was about 1981 or so. My neighbor worked at a high-end foreign car dealer and he got to bring cars home once in a while after they were fixed by the body shop. He would check it out to make sure everything worked, no rattles, etc. He would show up in Porsches, Lambos, Ferraris and say "get in". We'd take some hairy ride down the Ocean Parkway at 150 mph or so. One day he pulls over and says "now you get to drive". This was some high-end Porsche, do not recall the model but was it fast.

My Grandfather always had some pretty cool cars, off topic for here but pretty cool, I own one of them now. He had a 1959 Ferrari 250 GT, I was 15 at the time. He lived in Phoenix so we would go out to the desert and he would let me rip around in the cars, when he moved back to Canada in the early 80's he sold off his cars, in a hurry and at a discount. I can't remember what he got for the Ferrari, I looked up the value recently, for the 2+2 they go for around $350,000, the 2 seater, of which they only imported 50, around $4 million, for the life of me I can't remember if it was a 2+2 or not.

BTW, I haven't told my grandfather the value!

I was on the alignment rack at the GM dealer in the same town and they would have the alignment checked after they did their mods.

used to drive a $200,000 truck every day for many years , then I owned one, the tractor was $125,000 the tanks ranged from 45,000 to 100,000 . I do not miss the $2500 a month payments .. next one after that was my step dads Mercedes , one of 8 had a 6.6L drysumped motor in it and a 6 speed , and was built in the early 70's . back then 16" tires were rare .now they are common place .

Most expensive & one I wish I had now: a new silver blue with dark blue interior 1963 Corvette Split Window coupe with a 340hp 327, 4 speed, and
air conditioning...it was quick and comfy especially in the South Texas summer!

  22. I would think the most expensive car I ever drove was a 1972 Pantera that my friend who was a physiologist and several years older than me ask me to go to Atlanta, Georgia and pick it up for him.

At that time the car was pretty pricy which would be chicken feed compared to the super cars of today but in '72 it was cool looking and fast. HRP

In the mid 1970s, I worked at a shop that specialized in antique Rolls restoration. After a week of 16 hour days and frantic preparation, I was given the task of driving a 1934(?) Gurney Nutting bodied PII 3 position drop head coupe from Cincinnati to Dearborn, MI . The car was to shown the next day (Saturday) at the Rolls Royce Owner's Club meet at the Henry Ford Village. I left the shop about 5:00pm, picked up my blond haired girl friend, and headed north. Driving that car through Detroit around 11:00pm on Friday night proved to be uneventful, but boy did we get some looks. The picture was lifted from the internet, but the car I drove was also green and quite similar. 1280px-1933_Rolls-Royce_Phantom_II_Continental_Gurney_Nutting_Sedanca_DHC_-_green_-_fvl.jpg

Although not HAMB friendly, but each 2013 version of Porsche 911, Cayenne, Cayman, Panamera & Boxster. Got to drive them on the road and then whole afternoon lead/follow on a road race track.

During my second tour of duty in Germany, an Air Force buddy and I rented an 87 Ferrari Testarossa for the weekend. Cost us $500 for the weekend, our wives were pissed.

I got to drive the Topper 1936 movie car around the old Ontario Speedway with none other than Cal Worthington and his dog Spot(a real Tiger) following behind me.

  30. Back in the early 90's I worked a Cadillac dealership where the owners son got involved in buying and selling exotic cars. I don't know what the most expensive one was but every one that he bought I got to drive. There were not kit cars or reproductions but the real thing.Just a short list includes couple of Ford GT40's Mercedes gull wing, no less than 8 Cobras both 289 and 427 side oilers a number of Ferrari's a number of Porsche roadsters a Porsche RSR and just about anything else you can think of.Some of these cars were worth over a million dollars at the time . I think I had the best job in the country at the time.
