  4. I am so bummed! I live in Syracuse and LOVE this event. Unfortunately I have a family reunion to go to in PA Saturday & Sunday and weather is calling for 70% chance rain and a high of 66 degrees. :(

good for you , i have a designers dozen plaque and jacket and it is kool to get that recognition with your car . i won it with a car i bought so i never really was able to bask in the glory of it . ha ha

i saw the car parked and went back later to try to chat with ya but it was gone . figured you left but now i realize you had to move it to the lot out front for all the people to appreciate ! i'll stop by and see you and get a better look at it today !

I saw an 11 thousands number on the prize draw board... It was absolutely jam packed. Great show.

that's great! the HAMB was representing in the designers dozen, my '51 plym also made the nominee list! not too shabby, out 8000? they pick 120 for the first cut and at least two of us made it, too cool.
Sadly I didn't make the final cut of 12 cars, but it was still an honor.
3030, did you make the dozen?

  15. Same here, never had to wait just to get out of the parking lot before. I think part of it too was it looked like it was gonna start raining soon. Everybody was trying to leave at the same time.

It was never run like that in years past!
We always had a great time! Till this year!
Rumor has it that they are looking for a new place to have the show?
    Maybe a nearby casino?
The building where the car clubs were, was closed?

Fair grounds keeps raising prices for facilities usage, County parks raised their rates also. Several local long running shows have changed their venues as a result. Maybe the organizers need to look as some of the abandoned industrial complexes around the area, Old Carrier Complex site or Griffiss Air base.

At 8,500 (+) cars this year, they are at capacity for the available Blacktop areas.
Being local, I just wait until I can drive right out. At 15 years old, the show is having some growth pains. The feedback will go to Bob and company to attempt to correct this years "issues". Great weather,
Great Crowd, Exceptional Cars. A great time was had by all (I hope).

    See Y'all next year.

  20. I had no problem leaving today, no wait at all at 5:00 - years past there's been a long line. It was nowhere near as busy Sunday as the previous days, I was able to walk right up and buy food at noon. It never rained really, a couple of sprinkles about 10:00 am or so that were hardly even enough to try to get out of.

But cars leaving past the grandstand have to wait in three places for other cars to let in, then all blend into one road to exit, so it takes forever. Part of it because the race course they set up blocked what would otherwise be an exit for some vehicles. I found a shortcut and used it Friday that saved me at least 10 minutes. Should have used it Saturday too.

I could not believe they had people parking on the grass in front of the fairgrounds, along the railroad track. There's no reason for that with all the parking they have, they can get 65,000 people in there a day for the State Fair without parking there.

Whatever was going on, people weren't spending by the time they got to the swap area. And it was never all that busy either, not that it's ever jam packed, but my final total isn't even 50% of last year. Were there any grandstand events this year? I didn't hear of anything, but I didn't stay very late any day either.

A lot of the help is volunteer and you can ask the same question to five people and get five different answers. In the end, they're volunteers, so what do you do, fire them? Then you have to pay people.

Story I hear is Right Coast lost money on another event so they cut back some on the spending for this one.

  21. I had a Great Time no problems getting in or out brought lunch so I only ate breakfast at the fairgrounds was my first time with my 56 at the show Hey Scootrzl it was nice talking to you in the hotel parking lot even though I didn't realize you were on the HAMB until tonight. I tried to upload pics but the file is to big sorry.

Event pictures ended up in another thread. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/syracuse-nationals-pics.934826/#post-10525298
Been going every year and know to expect some delays in entering and exiting the fairgrounds. Still had a great time, met some new and old friends, picked up some ideas for my own projects and just enjoyed a nice relaxing weekend.
I will be the old guy there next year wearing a car T-shirt (maybe a gray one to match my hair).

I saw your Plymouth in the designers Dozen area, Very Nice Well Done Car, My Shoe Box. was also picked but did not make the final cut. It must have been close because the Judges came back to look at it 3 times. I don' t think I would do that again because I could not park with my travelling buddies and found it BORING in that area.

I guess when you put on a great show the word gets around. This was my 3rd year and Ill be there again next year. With so many cars and tons of vendors and spectators you should be prepared for the traffic. My only problem is with those scooters.I use to think they should only be allowed for the disabled. The older I get the better they look.Thank god for the tram cars.

Great show..great cars..great weather...what more do you want??? sure there were some traffic issues, but with that many cars its to be expected. My only question was why don't they open the exit at the other end up by the pedestrian bridge to help when it backs up ???(the one with 10 state troopers just hanging out).. Just my 2cents.
