  1. Its looking real goood!! What color is going on the body? Love the copper merc. Ford painted some that color in the fifties, don't remember about the mercs. Tim

    Thanks man!

The engine paint is from my 1950 Ford 8BA that was in my '50 coupe.

The Merc 8CM was an ugly green. So I had leftover paint that I love the look of.

The car will be death metal, satan worshipping high gloss black.

So my oil pan is unacceptably low to the front axle... 1/2".

So I got a vintage drop axle and 4 bar setup of unknown vintage and origin. I was told it's old and only been used in a mock up. It was sitting in an old timer's shop for a long time.

So back to square 1 on the front leaf spring package but I like this setup aesthetically and like the adjustability.

I've replaced the bushings with pivotal roller bearings on the bars.

It's my first time doing this, so feel free to call out something if it's lame.

The frame brackets will come in a bit after everything else gets setup and located in the general area. Then I'll take it apart, clean it up and paint it.

I did much the same with my 35 coupe. The 8BA leaves absolutely no room for a fan in there with the wide belt. I tucked an electric in there.
Suspension, I simply put tube shocks on her with a bolt on from pete & jakes and a posies reversed eye front spring and F-1 15" wheels ( they take the 40 hubcaps). Rides great. Could use a sway bar.
    Great job!!

As far as your radio goes, try finding a later model radio that has a knob that turns it on (and adjusts the volume), and another knob that changes the station. Then just hook your cables from the original dash control to that radio. That's the simplest remedy.

Before you go to all that 4-bar stuff, is there any way you could modify or change pans along with using the pictured '49-'51 Mercury U-shaped mounts to raise the front of engine for more clearance? Loving everything else about this car! DD

It's been a while since I've updated, but I'm getting there.

    Getting the dash squared away...

    Cleaning up the brake lines...

    Fuel pump mounted, hard-line ran...

Body is primed. Ready to be placed on frame for door alignment so there's no problem with the paint later.

And the car painted... Hopefully I can get this thing fully back together in the next couple of weeks. It'll likely take a month or more since I'm having someone do the interior... I am dying to drive my car!

Yeah... As down as I am for all that, black was bothering me maintenance-wise...

Thanks! Mine was green so I went with the Ford color of the same year.

What color is it..... looks like it might have a little metallic in it ? again very nice, and it will look way cool finished. Interior color ?

On another note: it seems that 35's have gained more favor in recent years. Back in the day I'm told it was all about 36's .... guys would convert 35's to 36's.
Having had both there are things I like more about the 36 and things I like more about a 35.... in the end they are both bitchin years.... glad to see 35's get the respect they deserve.
At the LA Roadster show for the 75 th anniversary they honored them ( 35/36's ) together when the 35 reached 75..... The corral had just a few 35's in it with my Tudor slantback being one of them and the rest were 36's.... that's a good thing IMO.

    Pretty cool looking car.

  27. That color looks good on there. Although a 35-36 Ford coupe pretty much looks good no matter what!

You will have a real nice car when you are done, keep up the good work.

It has some pearl in it. I'll see if I can pick it up with my camera. The color is a Porsche color. The interior is going to be a rusty brown leather. I like 35's and 36's. There's a lot of similarities so I guess it mainly comes down to the grille. If you get the body style you want, I could flip a coin on year preference. But if people do 35's less often, I'll take it as a badge of honor.

Thanks guys! And thanks to everyone else complimenting my car. It means a lot on this site!

Nice, thanks for taking us along on the rebuild. Saw a similar colour late model OT car yesterday and thought that would look great on a rod. Thanks for proving me right. It looks fantastic !

The interior color sounds like a good combo.
