The body you have may be this Bantam built by Don Garlits. The stock height Bantam was built by Don & Ed Garlits for Tommy Porter of Savannah, Ga. The pictures you posted shows a chopped top that could of come later. The pictures I posted show the drivers side cowl with the same decals but in a little different order. Can you post a picture of the drivers side to compare. Garlits Bantam cover.jpg

Notice on the rear of the body...Snuffy III, is letter on the roof. There are certainly enough similarities to investigate this further. Garlits Bantam rear view.jpg

I read in one of Garlits' books that he did not know the where abouts of the car. I am sure he would be interested in talking to you. I do not have another copy of the magazine, but you should be able to find one on E bay or a swap meet. It is Rodding & Restyle June 1962. The article was three pages and I can post here. Big Daddy has barns full of old hot rods and parts. If he wanted to restore this one for his museum, I'm sure he'd trade you a nice coupe/roadster project for it...(something with less 'Garlits History'...could be a bonanza!)
I'd definitely contact him. He's a big help in projects anyway. Great guy.

Awesome little "slice" of history there! Great detective work, too. Cool stuff

  26. Cool find, be awesome to see it restored back. Someone did a serious chop on it! Too bad it is so cut up. The orig Garlit's build is too cool.
