hi everybody, i just bought this 29 ford roadster hot rod, with flathead motor, top loader trans with zephyr gears, auburn dash, banjo rear,........ i was told the car was build in iowa in the mid 50s.... last owner was james edward willert from rice lake, wi....... hope someone knows the car/owner and has some information or pics of the car!!!!! would be great..... thanx and greetings from germany alex
I'm in Iowa, and I can tell you that NOBODY built cars like that here in the 50's. There's no way a Hallock windshield could make it's way to Iowa back before the days of the internet. It may be from Iowa, but probably circa 2000.
ok, thanks..... windshield could have been changed later!!! ;-))) maybe pics from wi/mn meetings last years... car was "back to the 50s" meeting last year (2013)...
The car looks too good to be a true 50's build from Iowa (or anywhere for that matter). That's my opinion. But enjoy the car for what it is, not what it was supposed to be.
Did you buy a car or a page from a history book ? It looks like a car made up by combining old and new parts' just like a.....Hot Rod. I don't think anyone in the 1950,s, even in Iowa, would letter a label on a bitchen roadster, but it looks like both Von Dutch and Tommy the Greek striped it so there's no telling. Drive it and enjoy it, you are lucky to own it.
We'll there was that wild year that Von Dutch spent in Des Moines in the early 50's....... In the early 2000's there was a guy named Jamison from Iowa who did a similar roadster. But the one I'm thinking of was on a 32 frame. Maybe he built another one on an A frame?
Awesome rod! Yes it passed thru some owners that may have not been period perfect! But it also passed thru a lot of time and has some very cool stuff. My 31 was built 12 years ago and I still run the lever shocks! The gas tank is a replacement scrounged from another hot rod at some time ago. Engine is perfect. Even looks like a 3 carb fuel block with 1 line blocked. Heated and bent shifter is right on. Cap and rings and stance look like late 40's Seat and door panels look newer-so what! Louvered deck lid-WOW! Dash panel is WOW! All you need to do is Find a way to get rid of the GOOFEY Hot Rod lettering! Obviously that guy didn't get it! You don't need to do another thing! The car is perfect! Period Perfect! Love it!!!!
I used to work at Kuyoths where you bought that car. They advertised that it was built in the 50s which really pissed me off because he knew it wasnt. It is a very bitchin car. I drove it to the Symco Shakedown last year and it drove amazing. It did get a little hot tho- FYI.
Chances are, if it had a pedigree, you'd know already. Just enjoy it. that's what they're for. Oh..... scrape that sticker off.
Check out the generator with the cutout instead of a more modern voltage regulator plus a real heater even!
thanx for all your replys..... sticker gets off first, when rolling out of the container;-)))) dont care about history at all, just want to know who build it and see some additional pics ...etc
Hi, I am sure about the history build , as the steering box is an F1 with a new flange welded on. I think that is new fashion since the Tardel book and not 50s style But its a great hot rod and i love the auburn dash !!!! And it has a Flathead !!!
Like others have said, don't focus too much on the cars history. It is a seriously bitchen roadster, drive, drive, Drive!! Doc.
It was builded in Iowa? I'll bet it never sais HOT ROD on it back in the '50s. Its a nice old hoopty, I would just drive it until it needed to be overhauled then I would overhaul it. If I felt it needed something different to be more of my own style I would change it just because I have never ever been happy with someone else's car or bike, but that is just me.
John Jamison may very well have built this one --- he was/is good at putting together cars like this. Sure looks like something he would build! Great guy, too. @hdalex - you could try contacting John via his business page to see if he built the car: http://www.jamisonequipment.com/contact.cfm Malcolm
Nice buy and how did you get the car into Germany with all their regulations? Someone will know the history but now you can make history in Germany. Enjoy the countryside in a roadster.
thanks guys, appriciate all comments/informations.... not easy to get a hot rod on the road in germany, need to add fenders front/rear, turn signals/emergency flasher....for the inspection. hood is on, emergency brake hooked up, motor/trans old, frame not kicked,....so should be easier than smallblock/channeled/chopped/custom frame.....cars!!! have to wait till begin of augustus, its in the container now;-)))) sandpaper is laying in the garage to get rid of the "hot rod" lettering!!!!!!!!!
