Rod and Custom Oct 2013 issue has a little blurb about these wheels on pg 68. I just got a set. They were about to be scrapped! I don't think mine are actually Astros.

Is it hard to find center caps that fit right or something? Most pictures (new and old) show these without center caps... I would love to have some of those spinner centers!

What's the bolt pattern on those? They look like they might be the weird Chrysler 4" pattern Jeem has been searching for...

I have the genuine astro's on my 28,they have been on it since 1962.I ran the center caps for a while, but then put them on a shelf in the garage, dont remember why.My wheels are pretty rusty and will have to be rechromed, chrome powder coated,or replaced, but the centers are still pretty nice! Rechromeing is probably not an option due to cost.I could probably buy a set of the repops for what it would cost. The chrome powder that the cuda chic does might work though.

  14. I didn't think those wheels went back that far. Powdercoating them would be a crime. There's a guy here in Houston who will chrome the center caps for $30 a piece. Probably right on the wheels costing as much to chrome as new ones, or maybe half. They are pretty pitted. :(

  16. I have a set of Appliance 14x7 and 14x8 with steel center caps, wheels are rusty, but if some one needs them, come get them!

  17. Like a few of the guys said earlier in this thread, I thought those were just cheap ass wheels for people that couldn't afford mags or cragars when I was a kid. But now I really like the look of them ... what happened to me? lol

  18. I wonder how a set would look on my Riv with pinner whites?

don't know if anyone is interested but i ran across a guy yesterday who bought out the contents of an old Firestone store that has 3 or 4 sets of OG Keystone chrome slots that look like the Astros. all were 14x6 and it was about half and half either 4.5 lug pattern or unilug. He was asking $300 a set. I couldn't use them as i'm looking for 15s but i got his info and he's only an hour or so away.

I shoulda just made him an offer on all of them but i really didn't want to tie up the money right now.

But if anyone is interested i did get his number and go after after a coupla sets(he won't ship si it'd have to be me going to pick some up).

I may get a wild hair drive back over today and make him an offer on all of them...ken....

  22. A friend in high school's brother had a new, white '62 bubbletop Impala with those on it.....I thought that was the prettiest car I'd ever seen... :D

  23. I have a full set of driver quality Superior (no step in the center) chrome slots in 5 on 4.5 pattern... I'd trade them for a set of 15"x7" 5 on 5" chrome slots in similar condition or a set of 15 x 7,7.5 or 8" wide aluminum slots (non-unilug, ET, US Indy, Ansens, etc.)

  24. Is anybody making repops of the these great wheels yet?
Or anyone selling any? 15x4.5 & 8inch rears 5x4.5 ford pattern?

couple of post above. The do make them, but do not look the same to a trained eye though.

  26. I have 2 sets of 4 that are 5 x 5 1/2" bolt patterns. Look through my misc photo album and let me know. I paid quite a bit for them so I might want more than you care to spend.

    Always loved Astro Wheels.

There was another company called Appliance Plating that I bought wheels from back in the mid 60's which also made some very nice looking rims.

I hated these cheap JC Whitney imitation mag wheels. They sold a lot because they were cheap. To my eye just being old does not make them desirable. When I see chromed slotted wheels I think cheap knock offs. The fact that they rusted in 6 months on a street machine did not help either. Different strokes...
