Now hopefully I can pull it apart and put it back together without messing up

Don't worry about messing up. You'll have three more and can go back and redo if needed. Learning experience-hands on style!!

I went and bought some nicer, louder, and hopefully faster parts so it is time to pull it apart and get dirty. 295 thumper cam, roller tip rockers, and bigger 194 heads instead of the smaller power packs. Hoping for the best

Copied this from cam spec. "Basic Operating RPM Range:2,500-6,400".
Are you aware it will be a pain in the rear on the street to drive? Your 194 heads will be better than power pack, however to get most out of cam you need 202's.

My car is mainly driven in that range around 2500 rpm since it's always On the high ways. I really wanted some 202's but couldn't find any for for near the deal I got on these. I'm sure it's going to be way over cammed but I honestly just wanted the nastiest/roughest idle I could get with out having to have any head work done. Thanks for the info with the heads though!

Well the car is up and running now, I think I need more spark because it sure seems to be running rich although I didn't touch the carburetor from the last time it was on, none the less the car is running and is much faster than before. I'm pretty stumped on why it doesn't seem to be 100% correct anymore. It will barely stay idling but once you are driving it does just fine. Doesn't quite like to start and stay started near as well as It did before either, any suggestions or ideas would be much appreciated.

  7. You don't think the new cam has changed the motors running characteristics. JW

What rpm is idle now-would think it needs to be in 1100-1500 range by cam spec. One of the things nasty cam's have is overlap with intake and exhaust open at same time. Fuel mix at low rpm goes out the exhaust pipe and can cause motor to load up.
Did you set Timing Advance to cam manufactures suggested setting?

Thanks Earl, that seems to be exactly what is going on. I have my idle around 800 which sounds awesome but it's just barely staying alive like that, I'll try idling it up today and see what happens, thanks again.

Well I haven't posted anything in a while, so here we go. Got the car running pretty great although it loves loading up. I just can't get over that awesome thump of the cam at low rpm so I'll just have deal with fouled out plugs every now and then. I have all the parts for my four deuce intake finally, just need some 94 rebuild kits and I'll be good to go. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1415253125.423280.jpg

Hear ya on the fouled plugs. I had a 64' vette with 365 hp 327 that needed cleaning/replacement often. It had the "30-30" cam. Your "new" intake and carbs are going to look sharp on the motor!

Haven't posted anything in a while, so here we are. Had some lifters fail and broke a rocker arm. So she's down for the winter. Car got drug over to Barrett's garage and he's been messing with it more than I have lately! I bought a Lokar shifter at the Belton swap meet and he's already got my floor cut up and installed it, also mocked up my 4X2 intake. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1420148538.058733.jpg

    Intake looks good!
Find out reason for lifter failures and busted rocker?

Don't really know why or how, but the retainer clips on seven of the lifters were gone, luckily all were found in my oil pan. Here's spicy of the shifter, I think it looks really good. Especially compared to the crappy ratchet shifter that came out ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1422112366.058141.jpg

So about 9 days before round up I had decided to pull all my interior out so I had to hammer down to finish it. Carpet was cut up and seat was flapping in the wind but the new seat came out pretty nice.
