Customs I just got this Rivi, and have questions

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Groucho, Jun 28, 2014.

  1. One family owned (Mom and Son) with lots of options (1/2 of which don't work-LOL), but a pretty fucking nice car. So, is there a seperate switch for the "Country" horns that look like trumpets and R mntd under the left side of the hood? And where's the fader for frnt/rear speaker (the surround by the tuning knob does nothing)? THNX

If that's the original interior, it looks like you found a really nice car. How many miles are on it?
I would think the original owner's manual would contain a lot of the control operation stuff you're looking for.

Try a Google search for an instruction manual.

  4. Orig interior, 130K miles. Surprisingly, no info on those 2 points in the owner's manual

  5. Sweet Riv. Nice find. Can't help with the issues but I'm sure you will sort them out.

  6. Groucho, contact Stevie G- he has a great knowledge of Rivieras... and great to have you back :D

There is no separate switch for the horn. Your trumpets were probably added later? As for the fade, it should be the "background" knob located behind the volume knob. The often fail.

Beautiful car . That's one that I have always wanted to own. What are your plans for it? Scott

if the train horns are factory, then they would be actuated by the factory horn button. Have you checked the wiring?

check your trim tag. I had a Riv with train horns and turning lights. There were accessory codes on the trim tag that matched.

  13. Add some Astro Supreme wheels and lower it a bit and that'll give the car a whole new attitude. Can't go wrong with the old Rivs!

The factory horn button activates the HORN RELAY. (I think it's under the hood, firewall drivers side? So long I can't remember; maybe drivers inner fenderwell)
The factory horns took a multitude of amperage. (all cars have horn relays, except 6 volt VWs...and my VWs all have early Ford horn relays)

Maybe consider some wheels it deserves. Riviera Skylark wires...

Nice Rivi! I love those cars.

  17. Nice car. All they need is some lowering and Astro Supremes to look great. I always thought the removable outer door skin was unusual. Miss my old 64 Riviera.

That car is awesome. Love Rivis and x3 on the Supremes.

  22. The one behind the volume seems to adjust tone, and the one behind the station changer does nothing. (probly failed as you said). On the trumpets.......a guess woulda been they're not legal in town (I vaguely remember the term "town and country" horns) and therefore been on a separate switch(?)

  23. So much for all that. My wheels won't fit over the hubs (frnt) or axle flange (rear) DSC07812.JPG

First off , thats a hell of a nice Rivi! As far as those wheels are concerned , just open them up with a reamer and they will be fine.
Its hard to find wheels to fit those large riviera hubs.

  26. If you know a machinist, he would be able to help you open up the center bores on your wheels.
