Congrats on the first drive! Took my '55 around the block today to celebrate your success! Think your shifter is a handful? Three on the tree is pretty dangerous around here.. hard to find first gear in a hurry! This Dakota swap is looking better and better to me!

Thanks, I hope the drive was fun. The Dakota swap is totally worth it IMO, but I think it depends on what you are doing and want out of your truck. Obviously "factory" and "original" aren't in my vocabulary (or at least not used much) so for me it made sense especially given the upgrade from about 76hp to around 275hp

I did a search for "video", thinking that I might find a recent posting and then would ask that poster for some help on your behalf (because I want to see it...) but the results were not stunning.
Best bet may be to send a PM to one of the Moderators and ask for the magic potion.

Thanks Gary, I think you can do it if the media is posted on facebook or one of the other social media sites (which I am not)

Decided to modify the gas pedal, it was the original one out of the Dakota but it was positioned too far to the left which left a significant amount of space on the right which is where your foot would go without thinking. I will post pictures later

I do believe that the truck needs a chrome grill.

I am getting water at the back of the block near the distributor, not sure where that is coming from.

It looks and sounds great! All that work and troubleshooting is starting to pay off. If it wasn't so far I'd come over and go for a cruise with you.

Obvious suspects are head or intake gasket. Use Felpro or steel type head gaskets?

As I recall they were stock style head gaskets

not sure I am ready for a cruise just yet, need to sort out the water exit issues and probably adjust the valves. I am talking next week off from work to work on the truck as I am going overseas shortly there after and want this as done as I can get it (they are never done).

I think the driving lights came out well, while they are functional they are pretty cheap and really more for the ascetic value; a little new with a lot old.. :)

I got excited when I heard your engine run and jumped too far ahead and had you cruising. I had a leak like yours at the back of my 241 and found out that it was one of the top rear valve cover bolts leaking. Once I switched to studs, problem solved. Are you already running studs?

yes I am running studs, however that doesn't mean they are sealed. I will open the firewall on the inside where I can get direct access to the back of the block and see what is going on. I am thinking it is either the intake, an intake bolt or something else. It seems pretty localized but we will see.

Another small issue that someone on here might be able to give me help on is the door fitment, specifically the drivers door. It seems to bind when closing, I can close it but it takes some "effort" whereas the passenger door shuts nice. I don't think the hinges are adjustable (I looked) but they could be moved just enough. My intention is to loosen them up and see what happens.

thanks, I loosened up the hinges and "wiggled" it some, fits better but still a little difficult. I guess I shouldn't expect too much as it is an old truck.

Update from today; I think that the water/coolant at the back of the engine is actually coming from the thermostat housing and running to the back along the valley pan. The radiator was overflowing quite a lot but after inspecting the cap I determined that it was wore out, so a new one went on and that seemed to fix that. The engine is running pretty good and the driver's door closes a little better. All the lights but the left front blinker are working, however I figured out that the stereo is not wired to a constant hot as it loses all of the settings every time I turn it off. The windshield wipers and heater motor are not working so I need to investigate that.
