I pulled into my family reunion back in IL last Sunday and was surprised to see this 49 Merc sitting in the parking lot of the picnic shelter at the park (There aren't a lot of car people in my family tree). It turns out it belongs to an older distant cousin who has owned it since 1955. It's pretty much stock but looked pretty slick nonetheless. I don't know if he has any kids or not, but I think I need to try and get in his will.

  4. That car is beautiful, love the color. I'm sure you were surprised given the acknowledged lack of "car" peeps in your family.:)

    It's not a family tree...it's more of a wreath.

I'm from Illinois and as far as I know no family members are into cars other than grocery getters and family sedans. Even my own dad didn't drive and rarely looked under the hood of the family car that mom drove. He was not big on having the oil changed. After all it was still oily so he'd occasionally let the guys at the corner filling station add a quart. I have no idea why I became old car crazy.
That's my uncle Bubba's Mercury and he is gonna leave it to me as soon as I remind him.
