Hot Rods Angilia ?

Can anyone ID this for me ? My father just picked it up. I can't find anything just like it on the internet. He was told it was a 48 Angilia. I hope the pictures show up??

Your pictures are loaded upside down. Try again..... The picture of the grille appears to be the 3 hole Anglia Version. The way the door is stamped is also similar to an Anglia door. I have never seen a 2 seat model with a trunk and spare tire (Continental Kit) But what the Hell. It could be a Highly Modified Car that started life as an Anglia. I have owned 2 Anglia Cars......... Grille looks Anglia. Tail lights look 39 Ford.

 

I had an English,1938 Ford 8 (4 door) that had the same 3 slot grille, the rest of the body looks custom..

HRP When I clicked on pics a screen came up to open a file. 3 pics in each one. The car looks like a anglia coupe with the roof cut off and doors cut roadster style. Not the usual Anglia. The more coupe looking one.

 

It looks like it started life as an Anglia prior to some serious custom work. It appears to have been built by a pro body shop or a very skilled amateur as the flow of the panels is very good with none of the normally funky transitions seen on most "lets make a roadster" conversions. The rear fender stretch is especially nice. Pretty cool little car that should be restored.

Thanks for the responses. I know the pictures are upside down that is the way they opened up when I opened them up from my email my mother sent me. I was able to use the rotation button to make them correct. I do not know how to save them into a different file they are zipped whatever that means? I am about 2 hours north of my parents but am going down that way in the next few days. I will try to get more pictures then. He was told that there were only 17 of this type car made. He was also told it was a 1948 ford angilia made in England for America because it has left hand drive. Where would I look for a vin number for this car? I have looked on the web and have found similar cars angilia coupes but can not find this roadster type version. there is no engine in the car. no title. I will post some more pictures hopefully right side up in a few days.

The beauty of this car is the mystery of it, and the fact that it looks slick as hell. Build it back up and it will steal the show.

Agreed. The front sheet metal is definatly Anglia. No clue as to the rest. Though I have seen (both a restored car and various pictures) an Anglia roadster with doors that are very simillar to those shown.

Have "you" done an internet search ?

it's not a factory conversion either; those had rear hinged doors with a more "MG"-like swoop to the cutaway. literally dozens of really talented metal fabrication shops existed in England post WW2 due to the thousands of demobbed vets with specialised training, so it could be an amateur job.

I have no idea, BUT the other day on "The Pickers" they ran across parts for an "American Anglia" which I had never heard of.

 

They probably meant American Austin [Bantam] me thinks..I'd open the pics again if it wasn't such a pain to have another look but the rear sorta looks Bantam like..

 

Here is a few photos for those who cannot see... I say it was a very well build custom...

 

I got to see it today and I got some pictures of it. I hope I can load them and they are right side up. It is defiantly English made ford. Here are some pictures.

 

I like it. Re-contour the rear of the top to flow better( looks to be a rear roof section that was shortened ? ), bring the top of the doors up and you would have a nice profile. I get all kinds of ideas looking at it. What else can you tell us about it's story now you have seen it?

 

according to the vin number it is a 1948. I found 1 site that says about 3000 were bought in America. I still do not know if this is a custom or if it is a very rare stock car. it had a 10 hp engine originally.

 

Not stock, rear fenders are stock as is front clip, cut down doors, coupe style rear & top are custom made, cool little piece you have there

 

It's been sectioned as well, the hood sides should have a grille running above the fenders, which are the only things that haven't been touched.

I would think that you could get enough bucks to buy a runing driver.
