I'd like to put a T5 behind my 53 customline I6 with a 3 on the tree. Has anyone done this? I know there is a web site that makes adaptors but what else will I need to do? What clutch parts to use? What type of T5 should I be looking for? I will need a new trans cross member and to shorten the drive shaft. Thanks for info!

Most important if you get an adapter, make sure it is a pre 86 T-5,, I made the mistake of gettting World Class Hi End Mustang transmission (s) and the input shaft on the post 86 is too long. We used an adapter from the Y Block (not Mctim here) site. Bolt on adapter to trans, new stock pressure plate, you need a different splined clutch disc (Clutch Masters handed us "Use This One" when we told what we were doing). Cut the tip of the input shaft off I think 3/4 inch, removed about an inch and half from the input collor, we used a stock 223 truck bearing. Threw it all toghether and slipped it it into the 53 Ford Brew 102 and ran El Mirage and Bonneville with it for over 2 years and now it will be used in our XO Production Pickup. Much nicer trans than the T 10 we were usuing. Oh the trans we did use came out of a 85 Mustang convertabel with a 4 cylinder it was passed over at our local PaP by everyone looking for V-8 trans, better first gear. Not sure on the trans mount as our was a race car and seen a number of motors and trans and I am sure you will need to do something with the drive shaft (shorten, lengthen) again ours was a race car.
    Hope this helps a little.

Lot less trouble to find a R-11, almost the same results at a fraction of the cost and
    hassle. Just my thought.

  10. I'm thinking about putting a T5 in my Galaxie if I can't find a T85/T86 R10/R11. I've heard that I should use a pre-94 T5 from a V6 Mustang and I've also heard to use one from an S-10. Which one would be preferable. I know that there is sticky post with T5 swap info but I can no longer find it . Anyone have the link for it?

    Thanks fellas

There is no such animal as a pre 94 V6 five speed Mustang.

The T5 input shaft is the same length from 83-93 regardless of world class or not, and regardless of 2.3 or 5.0. The 2.3 transmission requires a different pilot bearing. The input shaft is longer in the 94-95 Mustangs by 3/4 of an inch. If you got a transmission from a 2.3 convertible, it had to be an 87-93.

  14. You are correct sir - there is no pre-94 V6 mustang. I meant to say pre-96. I believe that I read that the 96 and up had electronic speedometers.

    Thanks for the link chopd.

The 96 and up cars had T45 transmissions with integral bellhousings but the V6 cars carried on with the T5 until at least 98.

    83-93 V8 Mustang T5 input is approx 9-1/4"
87-93 4-cyl Mustang T5 input is approx 9-9/16" & is different diameter and spline count
    94-95 V6 & V8 Mustang T5 input is approx 10"
