Does this sound like a failing torque converter?

No machine work is preformed prior to installing a Speedi-Sleeve. They are just driven on.

  2. yes the converter has to be opened up or replaced.
The flanged bearing race between the pump and stator is broken.
The sealing ring that is damaged is for the forward clutch.
Probably broke when you pulled the pump.
You can replace them with cast rings in this situation.
The middle sealing ring for the direct drum can be left out to full feed the direct clutch ,but the reverse passage has to be blocked in the case or VB..We'll assume it is , if you had high gear.

  3. When I run across something like that, I go to a local transmission shop to get their opinion. Carry in the whole deal and have them look at it. Chances they will have anything as in seals and most will do you an exchange on the TC for a good price.

The guy only had the steel replacements so I grabbed those. Question: I have the washers for the pump bolts. Is it acceptable to put a dab of rtv on them to insure it will not leak?

  5. I've never used any sealant on front pumps or any transmission internals myself. Just let the seals do their thing. The pump bolt holes are probably blind anyway.

You can use some sealer on them but I have never had a leak problem with reusing them.

Ouch! Looks like you're going to have to buy some more parts Joe.

I don't even want to mess with it now. I pulled one out of my reserve stash, gave it a quick lookin over and started putting it in today.

What does the C2 cast into the bell housing signify?
