I just bought a set of Maryland 1931 tags to run on my model a. Bought them at the showdown hopefully they let me run them without repainting. Maryland you have to have a matching set and keep the other new set in the vehicle somewhere. I just need to find a set of 1948 with 1949 date tabs for my hudson if anyone has a pair

This one is interesting, not only because of its age. It has some kid's artwork, including an old car. Also, there's a "maker's number" etched on it, which is the old v.i.n. number of the car on which the plate originally resided. This was mandatory up to 1920 in Pennsylvania, but I guess the person that did it couldn't break the habit.

  6. CA didn't issue a plate in '58. For a '58 model vehicle, you have to use a '56 plate with a '58 sticker.

That 1928 plate was changed the next year after the cod fishermen complained the fish was swimming AWAY from MASS. -- the fish was deleted on the 29 plate ("Naughty fish!") and reversed on the 29 commercial plate ("Good fishy, swim toward us.")

  12. 41_plate.JPG 41 MD plates.JPG I just bought a pair for my car that needs to be repainted. I initially tried to register this plate, but MVA said I needed both to be able to. I just assumed they only issued one plate that year since they did for 1947 when I registered my 47 Ford. I like the original paint (not restored) but the ones I just got really need to be repainted! What's the best method and kind of paint to use so I can redo them myself?

Here's my plate for the '31 roadster. The only problem is that I can not find a license plate frame to complete the detail. I need one 16 1/2 inches wide. Any ideas for a source? 31 plate.jpg

These are sample plates that were displayed on the counter at the DMV
They were supposed to be destroyed but my dads friend saved them for him because he was a collector

About a year or so ago I completed a run of Illinois passenger plates from 1913-2013. Each year is a matched pair. I've gone on to get 2014 and 2015 plates to keep the run moving forward.

Each column represents a decade starting with the 1910's on the left and the 2010's on the right.

I also collect City of Chicago Tax Tags. Here is part of my collection...

I also collect the 1940 plates. I'm short Alaska, Mississippi and Louisiana also. I did find a Hawaii plate although Alaska & Hawaii were not states in 1940.

  21. I've only had 3 vehicles in my life that had plates on them when I bought it. The '61 Bel Air with black plates and 2 early 70's Camaros with blue plates (all sold now), the others either had personalized plates that the owners wanted to keep or were out of the system (lost plates or lien sale......I only buy the best cars :)). So instead of having new white plates I went with the YOM program, truth be told I would love to find a car with '63 black plates or even the blue plates.
The plates on my cars, I don't run front plates so these are inside the house:

Even my house has one.....I was bored one weekend.

  22. I have a question for the plate guys. In Arizona I see they have old plates with the county on them, do you need to have the correct county to re-use them now or is it just the year and commercial/non commercial that matters.

As I understand it, you need a 56 plate with a 58 tag. The 56 plates have to be clear with the dmv, and the tag you can get off evil bay, or at swap meets there is a guy that sells both for a price, he is usually at the meet in Sacramento, and I have seen him at Hot August Nites. Or the oldpl8s site works as well. He was a nice guy to deal with, I was just after an unrestored set for our 29 Coupe, at the time he didn't have anything like that, so I got them off evil bay
