Good on ya Ben. These cool cars don't need that extra stuff. Less is more as they say.

    Awesome!

It's already been said but build what you want. If everyone did the same thing we would all eat vanilla pudding.

Since the hamb was down, I've made some progress. We fired the 327 tri power. It has a nice sound to it. Should be a good power plant! I've been working on small odds and ends. I finally finished the steering shaft. I had to splice a shaft onto the box with a 6 inch stub. I got that all taken care of and ten needed to figure out radiator mounting, alt bracket , and fuel system.. Sooo, I sheared out some pieces and hand made a fuel tank for the trunk. It has 2 baffles inside , fuel sender and all the fittings . Fully tig welded and pressure tested. It was a good fit. It's 18 gallons and takes up a small amount of the trunk

On to the alternator. I looked all over for brackets to fit.. Nothing worked with the tri power . So I drew my own. It's works rather well. At least it fits under the hood and no one will see it! Don't mind the main through bolt. That was temporary

The radiator was way to low . So I had to make some c channels to lift it up 2 inches . I ran to the auto parts store and dug out some hoses that will work .

I will be fitting the grill and hood next along with fitting up exhaust. I ordered two inch smithy steel packs for the car. Should give it a great tone with stainless pipes.
I need to weld the filler neck back on the radiator and some brackets.. I may have to go bug Matt thrasher again since I still haven't bought an AC tig welder to do aluminum .

After working a 14 hour day, I came home to a bunch of speedway boxes! My drag link, smithy glass packs, fuel Sender.. A few other odds and ends. I picked up a 10ft stick of stainless 2 inch exhaust . It only took a few mins to have some wire templates made of what I needed. Our local auto parts store bends exhaust for $2 a bend! So I had 5$ in bending the exhaust. I welded it to the new flanges on the manifolds and installed the steel pack mufflers. It looks great. The pipes after the mufflers are just sitting in place. I haven't decided what to do with them yet.
So I moved onto the steering. I shortened the drag link to fit the car, welded the steering hoop gusset in and called it a day.
Sounds soooo healthy! And I have steering! Finally

I received my adjustable 240/33 ohm Stewart Warner fuel sending unit yesterday. Fully adjustable for a 10-14" deep tank.
So knowing my side view of the tank. I use that view in auto cad and began laying out the fuel sender and the float rod inside that view. Stewart Warner sends you a list of dimensions depending on the depth of your tank, but since my tank is odd ball shaped, I had to play around to make it fit jus right, trimming the float rod also. I like the fact when it says "empty" there will be about 2 gallons of gas in reserve.. It may be needed! After that was done I made a bung for the tank that the sender could attach to. I drilled and tapped it 10/32 and it will be welded to the top of the tank. I accounted for the material thickness of this bung when I set up my sender. So it should work like it was made for the tank.

Good work, good progress. It's handy having a shop that can bend the exhaust tubing like that. I've used autocad lite a few times for laying stuff out like that. This build reminds me of the glass 34 I built a few years ago.

Today wasn't very productive on the account of blowing a tire on my DD going 75 on the interstate with no spare!

I test fit the sending unit and it's good to go. It needs tig welded yet

I bought some stainless exhaust clamps to hang the exhaust.. I didn't weld the pipes after the mufflers because I have no idea what I wanna do, opinions? Should I put turn downs? Leave em straight? Or have tail pipes made?
Andy kohlers 34 had nice exhaust that the new owner installed

This was the look I wanted..... Notice the bumper/chin guard!!

Anyways tomorrow is another day. I'm ready to start the brake system.. I will be using the factory 34 pedals and copying Andy kohlers master cylinder.... Seems like this guy knows how to build a car.

That is the part that pains me about it not being there, the grill is not protected. But I think it LOOKS better without it... maybe the black would be better than nothing at all. The chrome just looked wrong in the photos at least. In the end it is only what you like not me or the rest of us nitpickers.

    guys,
its been a while.. several weeks ago my best friend/co worker was killed in an ATV accident on the Hatfeild-Mccoy trails in West Virginia... so its been pretty hectic. between dealing with the loss, and trying to get work straightened back out to function with out him, it has been a chore and a half... but life goes on.
also my CELL decided to shit the bed so i haven't had one of those in a while....
I have also shut my shop doors to any outsiders... I now do NOT work on any projects other than my own.
This was decided after i was hounded even through a very rough viewing and funeral service. I've done a lot of fab work for pennies on the dollar for a few guys, even took some not so nice parts on trade for work, and they still feel fab work is dirt cheap.... and its NOT. If they were to find out what a real metal shop would charge... they would be broke....not to mention the fact they could call me anytime and what they needed would be done... done exactly how they wanted..
anyways, not to vent too much,.. i may be moving to a warmer place. hopefully...
When life gets back to normal, and i have time to mess with it, i will post some progress. the 34 has not changed much other than get dusty.

thanks a lot guys, glad i still have your interest!!

  29. Man that really sucks. I know in a very small way what you must be going thru. The only thing I can say is,it's true that "time will heal all wounds". Hang in there pal. I spent many a time alone and sobbing. I guess that is part of the healing process. God Bless!
