Projects No Compromise : Ford A coupe

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Madmath, May 21, 2014.

  1. Next step, the engine mounts.

I want to keep it simple because I think that enough is enough.
Good thing, I have brackets in stock :

I decide to weld the brackets and add few rivets for the look :

For the Y-block engine brackets, It's not very easy because I want to keep place for my exhaust, so the brackets are offset forwardly.
The 3 parts are just tack welded at this time to see if alignments are good :

    .
It's ok, I just need to make all welding and perhaps rework a little the parts because I'm not convinced by the look, even if I want that supports are simples :

With the engine et transmission in place :

You and your friend have some crazy-cool ideas and talent, but I'm still curious about the front suspension design. Besides the spring to frame rail clearance already mentioned, the shackles are nearly horizontal so for the life of me I can't understand how the spring will flex, even a tiny bit. What am I missing? 9. Gary, Yes the shackles are horizontal, but no weight on the frame.
Now with the empty engine, I have a little angle.
When the engine will be mounted, with crankshaft, pistons, heads... and all accessories and when I will have the body, hood, grille shell, radiator, water, etc... the shackles will have the correct degrees.

If you have your 45° with a non loaded frame, I think you will have to more angle when it will be loaded so a bad suspension.

In some books or on the Speedway website, you can find a diagram of that :

  23. yes! very nice. Love the Y block

  24. Many thanks guys :)
We bought a new farm last autumn and we have a lot of work to do in the house so I didn't have time to work on the frame (or other cars)

I only collected few parts for the body.
    It's not a good mock-up, it's just to see what's missing and where I go :)

Awesome skills, you and your friend have done some beautiful work on that frame. I am looking forward to seeing it complete. I like your choice of engine. Good luck with your project.

I like the chassis work you're doing. And those doors are gonna be killer. I never would have thought about using them on a coupe, but they ought to work.
SPAM ALERT: If anyone in the States wants doors like those, I have a single rough one that could be bought reasonably. PM me if interested.
