Projects My 36 ford project. Or how to ruin a perfectly good car

Your work continues to amaze me. I dream of getting a 36 Ford roadster, but if a 5 window coupe or sedan is the basis, your project has taught me a lot about what will be involved in the conversion. Thanks for what you have shown us.

 

Thank you. One of the great things the hamb is the technical aspect of it. Guys go out of their way to post what they're doing and how to. so we sort of teach each other collectively. really it's a beautiful thing. without sites like this most of us probably wouldn't do half of what we do.

Wow...just started reading, but it's amazing what some guys can do with a handful of rusty tin.

I've always loved this model year. One of the best styled ever. Flat radiator cars were never for me I guess...

 

Oh yeah "It's just metal"... that's what I tell my high-end guitar clients. "It's just wood." Right. That's some great metal in some really good hands - mastodon balls also help. Love this. Excellent so far!

Im trying to do the same thing with a 38 plymouth sedan. No where near the skill level you have but its good to see how you have done this, give me a little more direction.

Been working on the rain gutters last few days. A little clean up and I'll start the deck lid. Still debating on how to go about it.

I'm currently working on my deck lid. Built a buck. Got it fitting good. Starting on my inner structure. No so sure it's Gona work. But I'll give it a shot. I don't have a real good way to hem the edges on the skin other than my tipping die.

Great work. 36 Roadsters are one of my favorite cars. I think that was a MInnesota car correct? I know the previous owner. Do you know if he's keeping up with your thread?

Ben working on my inner skin for the deck lid. Hope to have it full welded this weekend. The I can start the outer skin hinges and latch. Kinda beginning to think this was a bad idea. But I guess if hotrodding was easy everyone would be doing it.

Inner deck lid skin is done. Still need hinges and latch built. Didn't finish sanding it. With the wonderful Texas humidity it's instorusting. I'Il have to wait till paint time.

It's all 18 gauge. I see you have some potential hot rod material there. I would like to do a 36 four door to roadster pickup conversion for my shop truck.

Been working on my deck lid last few days. I got the latch mounted and machined the receiver. I'm using BMW latches. They really perfect for hot rods.

Also machined the hinges. Still need to finish out the bases. Trying to make them not look so billity

Thanks for all of the kind words. It helps to keep. Me moving forward. I finally got my spool gun for the mig working. Turns out instructions are important. Now I can mig aluminum. I got my hinges for the deck lid done and mounted only to find out they won't work as designed. Back to the drawing board. I think I finally decided on a color. Still a few months from paint. But a brother can dream.
Debating if I want to take on a side project to convert a 5 window to a 3 window.

Don't forget to include drains from your beautifully done trunk gutter. I'm sure they will be works of art as well.

Great Work,I had to make a 35 roadster back for a guy last year,it's interesting to see how different people tackle the same job, my inner deck lid was almost the same as yours. Here are some pictures of the one I did.

Wow. That's some nice work. Looks a lot nicer than mine. In hindsight I think it would have been easier for me to start without the tail panel all together. I also really should have borrowed somebody's car and had on-site to copy. Or made a better buck anyways. would've been a lot easier.
