Level and low...Wichita look a slight rake. Taildraggers were not popular on 60' cars. Search for the mild custom thread here....done

What makes this design susceptible to bump steer?

 

the way the tie rods are located on the draglink and it was designed for bias tires .

as for ride them old boats look better low and level , ass up makes it look like a funny car if it has the large flat trunk . and if it taildrags it means there too many bodys in the trunk . ( mafia joke)

Actually there's a ton of luggage in the trunk. Might be just slightly low in the rear but it's all stock. Dual exhaust pipes only drag on occasion.....

Well, just for fun I took 1 1/2 coils out. I have about 1"-1 1/2" before the bump stops. I can't get any toe deflection by jumping on the front end, so not sure about the bump steer issue. I have another set of coils if I need to go back up. The back needs to come down 2" now and I also have a set of clapped out coils for the rear that measure 2" lower on my parts car so I'll swap them in and I'm golden.
I love the way it sits in the front, and I still can get my floorjack under no problem.

they were level and low in the Detroit area. dad had a 58 olds back in 61 I was 14 drove it all the time. low and level great car.

 

CRAP, now I can't get it in/out of the garage. High centers on my apron! hahahahahah.

Another low and level vote. Also Bellflower exhaust tips like the one picture in the beginning look just right for the 60's look you want.

My old 64 Riviera was very low and would high center on speedbumps and some driveway entrances. It is the price to be low......

really this is a damb traditional custom section on the HAMB how dose stock apply ?and they weren't low from the factory ????my wife has a 64 Catalina on air ride that sits on the ground it DONT have bump steer ???all thow your comment later on camber and caster was positive

that buick dose sit right BUT most of these cars are just stock lowered cars it should have been shaved!

these are some pics of my 62 pont gp taken in the late 60S we used to cut the snubber in half leave 1"or less of bounce. it looks good do the back an leave it. it will settle a little after you drive it awhile.

I'm a hot rodder not a custom guy but low means "custom" high means "drag".
As I recall many early 60's full size cars came from the factory with 14 inch wheels, unlike the big 50's cars that mostly had 15's.To us this looked like the factory was trying to immitate the custom look.
If you saw say a 60's Ods, Catalina or Gp, or an Impala sitting high it usually ment 15 inch wheels, Torque Thrust mags and drag mods. Low all around is the way it went in the 60's and still looks great today especially on a land barge like that 61 Olds

Just starting out, here it is now before dropping the rear. The car doesn't look that low in the pics(camera is on the floor) but it is. The frame is below the rockers by approx. 1" too.
Don't mind the green wheels either, just haven't painted them yet.

 

Looking good! Low and level and long...... its the way to go!
