It was a hell of a lot of fun, but I had to clean the sedan with a water blaster when I got home and I can still see traces of the clay in some places way underneath (see avitar on left).

That last photo of your car head on is brilliant, really shows how low the whole thing is. I would leave the bugs in the radiator as it certainly shows it is driven.

I try not to grin too much! But those screens do flick most things over the top. If I travel far out of town I will generally cover up with a big motorcycle sock up from the chest,glasses and a beanie cap on the top.
It is easier to dress for the worst case scenario than it is to stop and change when the weather turns to crap.

I am busy wearing it out now! Clicked over 5000kms on the weekend......since December.

Better late than never, here are some pictures from my run in March to the pre 49 Nationals held in Masterton, in the mighty Wairarapa.
Top of the hill on SH 16 just south of Wellsford. From here you can see both the West coast and East coast of this skinny little bit of dry land.
I stopped for the first night just out of Hamilton with an old school buddy. He is into Fiats and this is his candelabra on the table. Got me thinking!
Gassing up in Cambridge, south of Hamilton.

I picked up a hitch hiker (a few actually!). This one was kind of impressive. I stopped a couple of days later in Palmerston North, and the apprentice of the place I stopped at pulled it off and said "look at this!" I nearly slapped him!
Lunchtime on day two at Lake Taupo on the shore.
Lake Taupo at the Steaming bean kiosk for a hot chocolate and a cookie. Perfect day for driving a roadster. I will never forget the drive from here to Napier, it was one out of the box!

Lake Taupo lies in a caldera created by a supervolcanic eruption which occurred approximately 26,500 years ago. On the beach is pumice rocks, these are some I threw into the water......and they float!
I stayed the night in Napier with Pete Osborne and it was his club meeting night, so we took the roadster......well it would have been rude not to.
From Napier to Palmerston North is a great drive too. The further inland you drive, the windier it gets.....really windy! If they turned off those bloody great fans on the hills, it probably wouldn't be so bad!

This was my wigwam all set up at Masterton. This was only 5 mins drive from the main event, it wasn't the Ritz but it was home!

 

Gasoline Heaven, just outside Masterton is full of great old cars and memorabilia.
Run by local hot rodding stalwart Bob Wilton and his family.
In another collection locally is a few gems, including this flathead inline six.

And this Mercury sedan. Like brand new it was. Looking good with all the bling still on!
Everybody getting lined up ready for our day out and about on the road to goodness knows where.
Not quite 1927kms......but close enough!

At Stonehenge parked up for a break.
In Carterton for a bit of shopping I spotted Doug Hallbergs spot on coupe.
Chewing through the miles!
The Show and Shine day turned out a bit on the dismal side. Made it a bit difficult to show off the interior.
The venue for the Snow and shine was at the airport, where a vintage aircraft museum is situated. The collection is mind blowing and the details are incredible! Much of this collection is brand new build replicas or rebuilt from a door handle and a hubcap!
This engine rotates around the crankshaft! The fuel is delivered through the crankshaft and there is only on valve per cylinder, it doubles a intake and exhaust!


My crappy phone pictures really don't do these planes justice, they are mind bogglingly amazing!
The detail on these aircraft is incredible!
All handmade as original.

 

These aren't just static model either! They all get flown fairly regularly.
Faithful reproductions right down to the last detail.
The guns have everything needed for a battle except a hole in the barrel.
During on of the runs in the cars we all had to stop for a picture to later be put into a frame of the event. When leaving the picture stop, a few feet slipped on the gas pedal. One car just ahead of me swapped ends completely on a cloud of smoke! It was most amusing!
I had to have a picture of a roadside meal. This one was from Viv's Kitchen ("The way food used to be") at Sanson heading up the West coast.

I stopped at Cape Egmont for a photo opportunity. This is the Western most point of the North island.

Another one at Cape Egmont without the tourist car in the way. The mountain was hiding behind that cloud in the distance.

I went to the club meeting at New Plymouth Rodders while I was in town. On the way to the meeting I wandered out to the airport (that is mount Taranaki in the distance) and bumped into the one and only friendly weatherman, Jim Hickey.
On the road home from New Plymouth I was 8 hours in the seat, with plenty of road works along the way and not many chances to pass.
More friggin roadworks!
Back on the motorway in Auckland, this was supposed to be a picture of my reflection in the car in front. Only 2 hours from home. The day I arrived home, the kids had swimming club, so I stopped and helped out with time keeping for a while before heading home. 2500 kms in 10 days.......what a blast!

 

Thanks Wade for the photo's and comments of your trip. The last time I was down in Masterton it was for Magoo's first open house and from there went across to Hawera to spend a few days exploring the Naki but woke the next morning with Kidney problems so headed straight home. The Roadster looks really good in the photo's too and I wondered how the cover fitted with the windscreen but in one of the close up photo's I see that it hinges flat so the cover zips across the front.

 

That car is trick from front to back,Wades skills are amazing and to see it in person is mind blowing. JW

The speedo stopped working the other day.........I thought "Bugger! broken cable!"
Drove it a couple times using the GPS on my phone to not get busted by the lawman. You don't realize how many time you look at the speedo, until it ain't there! Rather frustrating!
I checked under the cowl vent and disconnected the cable, eliminating the speedo as working fine.
Pulled the cable inner.......only to find it was in perfect condition!!!! Hmmmmm!
To get at the trans end involves taking off the belly pan. Which means lifting the whole shebang up off the ground. To do this meant a workshop shuffle!
Shuffle complete, car on stands, I pulled the pan. "Oh my my! It ain't half dirty under there!
Turns out the 90deg fitting had come adrift from the trans. I managed to squeeze my big mitts in around the drive shaft and get it started back on. There is no room to get any sort of tool wrapped around the knurled nut so I used a pin punch and gently tapped it up tight, so hopefully it won't do it again.
Once I was happy with all that, I proceeded to clean where I could reach. The belly pan had a good old collection of crap and oil on it, so I took it outside and hit it with some degreaser and washed it all nicely. Once it was clean and dry I grabbed the wax and gave it a protective coat.
All back together now, back on terra firma ready for the weather to clear and a day off work.
