Brought it to the local car wash and pressure washed the 40 years of dust off- it was like mud...

Then I went to town on it... Started to buff the paint- which is pretty thin- and most of the high level paint is paint/primer showing through which made Danielle comment that it looked like fake patina-

I have a couple sets of 49 ford 16" rims- this set with chrome sides and new firestones-

I'm nowhere near done cleaning it up but it's looking pretty good!

It runs awesome! I posted a vid on my IG-

Needs a fuel pump and I need to rip into the brakes-

One turn signal is burnt out- and I need to fix the wire in the pass spot- otherwise so far everything works!

Nice find. Any time I go in a barn, all I find is what the animals left behind...and some hay.

I'm pretty sure from the visual signs of wear its just a very well cared for 129k car- (-: cleaning it up really shows it has a history- hoods been swapped at one point- some mild abrasions and repairs- but overall clean!

I'm totally in love with it-

    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1400472055.354432.jpg

I'll get some more pics of the back and trunk etc- the spare was on the car- there were 3 matching tires- but 5 rims all together-

I worked on it pretty much non stop since it arrived.

I swapped the fuel pump, bat, cables,
    fixed the brakes-
    DROVE IT TO TOWN!
and filled it up with fresh gas after I drained out a tank of varnish-
    it runs AWESOME.

I'm going to drive it to work tomorrow- hasn't been on the road since 77... thats pretty much my entire life time...

  19. Stoked for you guys, great car, great buy, and hopefully a new lease of life for both the car and your old spinner aspirations.
    Cheers,

  20. Man Those Options!! Sunvisor, Spotlights, Skirts!! Are those Appleton's? My first car was a '50 2dr sadan and the second was a '49, man I would have loved for either car to have come with those goodies already on.
Thats the main reason why I bought my current '51. I just want to do to this one what I could not afforded and wanted to do back in 1960.
The added wide whites and the caps really did her good.
If I send you a mason jar full of moonshine, could you bottle up that interior smell and send the empty back to me so I could breath some of that great old smell!!
I will be watching for more updates.

@Drewfus thanks man- feels good to have another shoe I can drive... speaking of which... I was going to drive it to work today but It decided it wanted to stay home. Stranded me- haha. I don't know how many time this type of thing would happen to me when I was 16 years old- made me smile big! It was running so good- but something must have clogged up the fuel delivery somewhere...

When we got home I popped the clutch down the drive and she fired up and acted like I was the one with the problem... time to drop the tank and back flush the lines...

@ol-skool-51 - that old car smell rules! We were talking about it last night- the seventies cars had a different smell... all that vinyl- fifties cars smell better- maybe its the mohair...

Well if that car was so easy to re-commission, maybe the parts car has a chance?

@Dan_C Overdrive has some rewiring I need to do- otherwise its legit.

@Flowmeister I just need to drop the tank- I'm going to do it this weekend- I might replace all the fuel line up to the pump having some issues with the fuel draining back into the tank- can't remember if there is a check valve. If not I'll add one.

@edwardlloyd that parts car is going to good use! I'm taking the flathead out and putting it in my jalopy racer 34 ford so I can whip donuts in the field :) and the rest of it is going to save my 50 ford business coupe that got rear ended.

    Fixed the overdrive!
    Fixed the brakes!
Fixed the slight miss it had at idle! New plugs wires etc- ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1407797090.993652.jpg
New gas tank on the way- flushed this one with a chain and pressure washer-

Spotted in the roof/trunk with some fresh black paint-

Planning on driving it to the hamb drags this weekend!

    Put a seatbelt in for the car seat- went for a picnic in Wisconsin and a swap/show in north St. Paul yesterday- ran out flawlessly- (-;

Maple didn't seem to notice- floats down the road! (-:

    I love this car!
