I have a 49 3600 3/4 ton, I am looking to redo the brakes. I have read a little about the bendix conversion, can anyone give me some more insight? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
From personal experience Bendix brakes won't stop "better" than the Hucks, but less pedal pressure is needed. So...my suggestion is too make sure the Hucks are in top shape, drums are often worn and finding quality replacements can be difficult. You can swap in a master cylinder with a 1/8 inch smaller bore to give less pedal pressure but at the expense of slightly more pedal travel.
It's not the stopping power, and I don't mind the pedal. Just hard to find parts. I dug around and got all new wheel cylinders and rubber lines for 150. Do you know where you can get rear shoes? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
3/4 ton drums are not made, very difficult to find for huck brakes. Linings can be relined if nothing else. The bendix brakes should be easy enough to adapt if you can find everything. The rear was used into the 60's, so that should help availability.
Thanks Jet. That was what I was coming up with. Does it have to be out of a truck or were there others with the same setup. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
