I just got my hands on a bad ass 48 dodge business coupe. Love the car drives perfect . Problem is it has a 283 vet motor in it. I want this car to be Fast and I think it should be all mopar. Easy thing to do is put a nasty 350 in it . It would drop rate in. But I want a 383 or 440 mopar in it. Has anyone done this swap? Anyone want a low mile running vet 283 motor? Thanks Nick ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1400213889.639872.jpg

If it was mine, I'd be ditching the Trans Am wheels first. Neat lookin car though.

While you are changing the engine, move the rear end back 1.5" to center the wheel in the opening. Common on most Chrysler Corp cars.

Is it sitting on a donor frame? A little strange that it has a Chevy motor and GM wheels as well. 'Sup wit dat?

I bet there is something like an S10 frame under there. Not only are the back tires too far forward but the front ones are a little too far back in the wheelwells too.

A 360 would fit in fairly easily. What frame is under the front will have an effect of how easily a Hemi or Big Block Mopar can be fit in.

As mentioned, the wheel spacing is off and the TA wheels indicate something nefarious afoot.
If the intent is to 'keep' it Mopar then you might have to first make it all Mopar...just sayin'.

You can make anything fit if you really want to, just depends on your skill level. I do love the look of those coupes and I agree with the comments above about the wheels and wheel spacing.

I think the car probably has at least a GM front suspension clip and rear end in it too; either that, or it's sitting on an S-10 or G-body frame. Those are't going to make swapping back to a MOPAR powertrain very easy. So, go with a bored/stroked 350 to 383 SBC, and tell everyone it's a 383 MOPAR (that's tongue-in-cheek). I'd find out for sure just what's in the car, and go from there. Butch/56sedandelivery.
