Need help on what transmission/drive shaft will fit my 1954 Mercury Monterey

I have a 1954 Mercury Monterey and I am trying to research before taking it to a mechanic on swapping out my transmission. Overall, I want to upgrade for a couple more gears. Right now it is the stock 3 gear mercomatic but I want at least 4-5 to be able to cruise the freeway other than the slow slow lane.

Can anyone help if they know what is the appropriate transmission/driveshaft that would fit my 54 merc (292 yblock)?

My buddy has been researching this too, we've been looking at

Looks like you can mate up just about any GM trans to it.
