Interesting, I learned something new. Maybe that replacement steering wheel and some nice gauges will be just the ticket for the interior.

  5. It's really not an easy job to assemble parts from various manufacturers and have them blend into a cohesive design. Hats off to you fellows for pulling this front end together beautifully! It looks like Detroit wanted it that way!!

Terrific design skills and talent - then and now!

  6. Hey, no problem! Keep up the great work. This is one of my favorite "new" customs in a long time. You are doing it just right!

Just a quick note, and trying not to be critical........This is not a "new" custom at all. Remember, Leland bought this puppy brand spank'n new, and all of the custom work except the grille itself was done by 1957. All of the added grillework was passed by Leland and Gene, to make sure that it all still fit the original design plan. Leland's passion was to have his own personalized ride, and did it to please himself. And I gotta tellya, it pleases me too, and a lot of other folks. Again, loud and clear, Leland is my hero!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Hey, no sweat! I mean "new" in the sense that it's finally going to be fully finished after all those decades.

Gotcha.......In that respect, it is new, never having been completely finished. Nick and I are really git'n excited at this point. We buttoned up the grille last night, and will proceed to the rear tonite. I really want to see that bitch'n Merc bumper with the guards and over rider in place. Nick wouldn't let me go there 'till the front was done. Damn!!!! We got some really cool beading to go between the guards and the bumper that I'm anxious to check out. Hope it works well. We also need to take the top to a shop for a minor repair. I know I've said it at least a thousand times, but once again.....THIS TOP IS AS GOOD AS IT GITS. It fits the style of Lelands topless temptress to a tee.

Now we're onto the interior and top. Thanks to all for participating in this venture, from Nick, myself, Leland and Margene.

Well, I'm back from possum crotch California. Actually, it is a small town wayyyyyy up in No Ca. A friend was entangled in a court case, and needed a bit of support.
Now, back to matters at hand. Here are a couple pics of the rear.

It occurred to me that we haven't shown the front end on the ground. Well here it is. Now we start put'n the interior back together, and then the top. I don't recall if I mentioned, Leland had the top constructed from two hoods, an early Chev, and a '51 Merc. Don't ask how, that's all I know. Then it was covered, similar to a real Conv top. You have probably figured out, I really love the way the top was done. No following the Jones or Barris's for that matter. I have never seen another like this. front end 008.JPG

Can't wait to see her out in the sun once all of the trim is attached!

On that subject, what was decided for teeth on the rear fenders? Or is that yet to be determined?

I love that front end. The flow of the design is so much better than what you started with. Leland must be just itching for the completion if his 60 year dream

Well, we opted for nothing in the scoop, and figured that we could make 3 wee spears for each side on the buldge. But, now that the side trim is installed, I'm not sure, as they would be offset to the bottom side. We will try some temporary critters to see how they look. Hello out there, suggestions are once again in order.......Thanks

Looking at the pics of the side with the quarter trim inplace I am leaning towards no spears in the bulge.
If you had a strip trim that ran the length of the car the spears would work. But with the trim being only on the rear quarter and turning up like it does the spears seem like an after thought. Especialy so since you aren't putting any in the hood scoop.
    Just my thoughts......
    Torchie.

Someone had posted a couple of Photoshop images with and without spears. It was really easy to toggle back and forth quickly. I was surprised that I liked it with the spears better. Just my two cents. Maybe somebody can bring those pictures forward to renew the discussion.
