I am working on rebuilding a T-Tub originally built in the late 60's or early 70's. The battery box is 5 inches wide, 13 inches long and about 9 inches tall. What fits this box? Where can I find this battery? old spoke
I wonder if maybe there were two 6 volt batteries used ? You should be able to find some small 12 volt gel cells,or motorcycle batteries.
56 Merc and a few others used that battery. I got one from NAPA. They had to order it, but had it in a couple days.
sounds like a group 29? if I remember right. as for finding one cheap....do what the other guys said, find the smallest one you can at wally world and measure to see if it fits
Sounds alot like the battery that came stock in my 56 cadillac... it mounted sideways behind the passenger front fenderwell.
http://www.odysseybatteries.com/battery/pc680.htm It can be mounted in any way but upside down, and it fits all of your size requirements.
Old timer and borndead are right with the 51 series Civic battery. I just bought one for my T, it measures about 5x9x9. Plus, you can get the 51 series in either post configuration (pos and neg posts reversed). Buy one for a 92 Civic. Karl
I had a Rayson Craft boat that had a similar sized battery. I just went to the parts store with dimensions and looked through the books till I found one that matched. I seem to recall one original application was an older farm tractor. Regarding smaller batteries, I used 2 jet-ski/snowmobile batteries in my T roadster. They are only about 3.5" X 8" X 8" and have somewhere in the area of 240 CCA, each. I hooked them in parallel. Price was only about $35 each.
I think you can still get a battery like that. My bosses '50 packard has one, but it's 6 volt. I'll look into it tomorrow...
