what size engine came in 1959 edsel villager wadon and what about rear axle 9" ? I picked up the car today was a freebe but my buddy wants to cut roof of for his 34 two door sedan. The car is complete but alot of parts have been taken off. They are all in the back end of car. thinking of parting out but will probably keep motor and trans. love that that horse collar grill. I already hung it on the wall in my shop
According to my '64 Motor's repair manual, the '59 Edsel came with your choice of: CID/ carb/ HP/ Torque 223 (6)/ 1 bbl / 145/ 206 lb-ft 292 V8/ 2 bbl/ 200/ 285 332 V8/ 2 bbl/ 225/ 325 361 V8/ 4bbl/ 303/ 390 Sorry, I can't help with the rear axle.
Edsel.com says standard for the villager is the Express V8 332 cid, but it also depends on the VIN, I believe the first letter on the dataplate gives engine code.. Here are what the VINs mean for engines: A = 223 in line 6 (economy six) C = 292 V8 (ranger) B = 332 V8 (express) W = 361 V8 (super-express) www.edsel.com is an incredible resource to learn more about the car!!! P.S. Here are the axle ratios based on VIN, but I'm not sure which order on the VIN these come. I don't know if this is what you are looking for on the axles or not. VIN Code 1: 3.10 : 1 VIN Code 2: 3.56 : 1 VIN Code 3: 3.70 : 1 VIN Code 4: 3.89 : 1 VIN Code 5: 2.91 : 1 VIN Code 6: 2.69 : 1
Edsel VINs do not contain axle coding; they are on a lower line of the dataplate. This '58 Edsel plate tells the following on the 2nd line: "AAA" : Jet Black body/ roof/ rims "AA" : interior trim code "17J" : 17th of September (build date) "4" : transmission code "A" : axle code On a '59 plate, the axle code is in the same spot, but uses the code numbers Little E posted above.
Many parts on the 59 Edsel interchange with a 59 Ford. The rear axle is a 9" and from what I understand is the same width as the 57 - 59 Fords. -- Chuck
what parts are you gonna get rid of? got any pics? lemme know when you are ready to get rid of parts.... thanks, TD
