Gearhead since I was in grade school in the '50's. I'm retired from owning a fast food restaurant.

My dad was a mechanic/jack of all trades. He was always finding cars that wouldn't run, buying them for almost nothing, getting them running and selling them. The interest in cars rubbed off on me, but not much of the mechanical apptitude.

Some guys build their own stuff. I don't have the knowledge, tools or space. My participation in the hobby is mainly as a driver/payor. I like to drive. The paying is why I'm still working. I drive to places, give people money, and haul junk home. I clean it up, then drive the stuff that needs work to someone that has the knowledge, tools and space to do what the part requires. After a long period of time, when it's done, I drive to pick it up, pay more money, haul it home to see if I remember how to bolt it back on to the stuff I haven't lost. My better half just shakes her head.
