- Nothing cool at present, but on the lookout for rod/custom material. I've also spent several years looking for my old race car, a 155" w.b., Beaman-chassied, full-bodied AA/Gas Dragster. Might just have to re-create it!
- Started Dallas' "Rovin' Rebels" in the mid-50s with "Roadster-Racer"
Car-crazy dad started taking me to drag races at Caddo Mills and Eagle Mountain in '52/'53 - I've been a car nut myself ever since (and that's a damn long time, folks!). My first car was a '27-T coupe; next one a channeled '29, then a '37 Chev coupe.
My cousin (H.A.M.B.member "Roadster-Racer") and I fiddled with lots of cars starting back in the mid-1950s as well as writing a hot-rodding column for a local paper in Dallas. We both went racing - he with altereds, me with a couple of modified sports (until NHRA in its infinite un-wisdom dropped the classes) and then finally raced a blown Chrysler-powered dragster in AA/GD...until NHRA - once again - dropped that eliminator bracket in favor of adding Pro Stock in the early 70s!
I then set up a chassis shop in the mid-70s building drag cars, but also got into off-road racing and chassis building.
Got out of racing until the last couple of years when "Roadster-Racer" decided to get back in it. Now I want to do the same. You never get too old to go fast!Interact
