I'm running Cast Iron magazine here in France. It's an independant publication, like most of the books I've been making before that (Cheatersville, Electroline Diaries, Rebel Motorcycles Ltd, Go With Moon). I created Powerglide magazine in 2007 (if I remember correctly), and ran the mag for 3 years or so.
My dad was racing bikes (Nortons). He took me to every automotive/motorcycle event possible in the Paris area when I was a kid, and spoiled me with car toys. Then I built model kits, my first one being a '55 gasser, as a matter of fact.
The French press was kinda poor in US car culture (which isn't the case nowadays) but we were able to put our hands on some cool articles, then mags, from time to time and get inspiration and knowledge.
Music played its part as well, obviously with the Stray Cats, and the Clash's cover of Brand New Cadillac when reaching the early eighties. They were a door opened to the treasures of the past, from Gene Vincent's 'Race w/ the Devil' to 'Rocket 88'.
Rock'n'roll, cars, bikes... all of them tuned to the same 4-stroke beat if you know what I mean.
I travelled to the US as soon as I could (by the age of 21) and wanted to see the country where cars are culture and had a blast!
From then on, I had a couple Chevrolets, including a '55, and travelled the world to find kindred spirits. Met lots of them. Photographed a lot. Made books, magazines, contributed to quite a lot and that's it.Interact
