Popping is burnback , clean the tip tighten the connection , inspect/replace the Orings. turn fuel up to 10 oxy can remain at 30 or so.
I would actually like a gun that could pre and post purge for a few seconds if I wanted. I have an old Miller spool gun that has that feature.
52 Dodge is 115" wheelbase, seems Plymouth would be the same?

I used a small sector late 60s Mopar box mounted ahead of the axle, cross steered, pitman forward, to right side.

Looks like a crack in the bottom of the pan too. I`d want to test that before put into service. If gas doesn`t seep through, it`s just a surface...
Your not the first to have this issue, you can thank the commies. I don`t think their shafts seal as well as OEM
