My Dad told us we could pay someone to fix our cars or he would stand there and tell us how. My older brothers walked a lot. . . . I learned to enjoy working on cars. After joining the Air Force it became my stress relief and financial boon. Twenty years in the Air Force and 15 in the private sector cars have keep me sane. I have worked on/driven for fun a 62 Cutlass, 65 OLds 88, 74 Vega GT, 72 Chevy P/U, 69 Cougar, 78 TA, 78 Vette, 69 Firebird and now a 76 TA.
