Sometimes it's OK to cheat.....a piece of tube with a disc welded in the bottom.

I have, on a small block Chevy. It worked very well.
I typically use 19 gauge cold rolled steel. I made some patches for the deck lid with it and the lid was 20 gauge. I should have matched the gauge...
