The Jim Harber collection
This is Harber in front of his parents house in San Bernardino back in 1947. That is a Chevy frame (Harber will not admit to that) with a T body and a flathead V8.

The Jim Harber collection
Harber towing from San Berdoo to El Mirage with a rope. Eventually it ran 124.00 (I think) in '48. The engine was pulled and went into his Belly Tank. It ran 164.00, then he sold the tank to Scotty and the engine went into Harber's '41 pickup. His wife drove the pickup with the 164 mph engine in it while Jim was stationed in Saudi Arabia during the Korean War.

Sandy Belond's Muffler Shop roadster
The dash is '38 Ford Standard with '36 and '37 gauges. Douglas Aircraft pre-war switches and pilot lights. A Bell Auto Parts hand pump and a Stewart Warner Auburn style 10 psi fuel pressure gauge, with ball valve pressure and vent levers for the tank. The original 1941 Russetta Timing tag reads 7.73 secs @ 112.92 mph.

Sandy Belond's Muffler Shop roadster
48 Stromberg's bored, ported and polished by Jack Henry in late 1930's. The main jets in these carbs are #61 ! That's 11 jet sizes over stock and they both maintain their power valves, those are 7 sizes over stock. They have milled slots in the throttle blade area that are similar to what we would call transfer slots today. They maintain excellent air/fuel ratio throughout the power band which is unusual and not consistent with standard 48's. Ol' Man Henry was known for his tuning abilities and these are a testiment to his carb work.

Sandy Belond's Muffler Shop roadster
Sandy's roadster is a '31 on '32 rails with a modified wheelbase and highly modified front and rear crossmembers. The engine is based on a production '40 Merc but was built by Sam Hanks who replicated a Miller Ford Indy engine. It features a Miller crank, Eddie Meyer dual plug heads with custom chambers to match the Bohn-A-Lite flat top pistons, a one off Thickstun/Radke 4X2 IR intake manifold; ignition is a modified Nash Twin 8 distributor driven through a Bugatti Scintilla angle drive adapter and of course a set of Belond W headers with tapered scavenger extensions.

I restored this '67 Taco 22 to use as a pit bike at Bonneville. I can no longer ride it after back surgery, so it's off to a new home. Fun while it lasted!
The Taco is now in the collection of former Speedway stat Gene Woods. It got a good home.
