San Gabriel drags 1958

My neighbor gave me these pictures he took one Sunday in May of 1958 at the first San Gabriel drag strip. (Yes, there were 2) Of note are the pictures of Mickey Thompson's twin engined Chrysler dragst

MT's twin that would make a detour to Bonneville on it's way to the NHRA nationals and change Mickey's life forever. Wearing it's fully streamlined body, this car ran 294 on the salt, and set Mickey on his quest for the land speed record. This day was the first time the car was test run.
