I was always in awe of other peoples barn finds, never thought I would be that lucky.

I was talking to a guy at a local show a few weeks ago about all of the '36 fords that were there that I had never seen before. He said that he had one in his barn that had been there a long time and that I should come over sometime and look at it. After a few days, I stopped in and checked it out (didn't want to look TOO excited).

It was in the second floor of this barn since around '73. After making the deal, we spent a whole afternoon just pulling other parts away from it to make it semi-visible. Then it took 3 more afternoons to get it down. The pictures tell the story...

It's a very solid '36 5-w with only minimal rust in the lower quarters from where the mouse piss soaked nests were. I took some cleaner to the black primer last night and it's washington blue underneath, just what I want.

Current plans are to swap a built 59A and a T-5 in lieu of the 21 stud LB and 39 tranny. I want to keep the look of wide 5's with no hub caps, so I'm going to figure out how to cut up a wide 5 drum and use it like a hubcap. Probably dropped axle and discs in front and 8"/9" in rear. I want this to be a long distance machine. Probably will convert to a rumble and eventually respray in washington blue.

Damn I'm in heaven, now just need to sell my shoebox project to finance the build (shameless plug, it's in the classifieds).

  2. Awesome. I need to start looking in nicer barns. Glad to hear there's still going to be a flattie under the hood.

Makes you wonder how and for what purpose the car was put up there to begin with. Most barn finds were "put away for the time being" years ago with no clear idea when they would be taken out. Somebody went to a lot of work to put this one away for a long time. Good for you on the find.

I LOVE the setting......the fall woods......the beautiful weathered two-story barn......the logistics of getting the car out........and last but not least, the great 36 Ford.....in my favorite color.

  16. Seen 'em come out of basements, out from under haystacks, out from under boxes of stuff and even from out of the ground (like my '31 Dodge engine did), but never out of a second story of a barn. Nice car, nice color and very nice score!!

How did they get it up there? Crazy, I would have been nervous to roll down those planks. Nice find!

Cool as hell. Any pics of the rest of the winch & chain system? I'd have been nervous about the chain!
