Super cool! I always wanted a hotord with a 324 Olds/slant pan hydro in it after owning both a 55 and a 56 Olds.
I yanked the 324 outta my 56 olds 98 rag top to put in a super cherry pie 50 ford tudor sedan but went in the service before I could finish it. Glad to see you are gonna get an olds powered hotrod on the street. I want a ride in it the next time I get up there, Jeff.

 

Yes if you want to get technical, thats why i said they are basically the same, drilling a few holes in my book doesnt make them different.

I'm adding it to my Ford 32-34 fenderless truck survivor pic collection. Every once in a while someone comes along doubting they ever existed back in the day & lay all the pics on them. What a great little hot rod!

 

Been kinda hopping back and forth working on this any my 34 5 window, so yesterday we worked on the truck all day, got alot of putsy stuff done but its coming along nicely. got the steering box mounting reinforcement plate/extra hole cover plate done out of stainless, still have to polish it. got some radiator suport rods installed also, made some exhaust flanges made for the manifolds as no one sells anything that fits or works good. got the other firewall reinforcement peice done along with some dash braces too, worked on mocking up the pullys and generator brackets and mesured up some belts too, got the lower hose figured out, and started work on the upper, we took a couple of the water block offs for the heads and drilled and tapped them to 1/2 npt, then screwed in some 1/2 npt to 3/4 hose fittings, then picked up a offy remote stat housing and stuck a couple more fittings into that, then got a pair of molded 90 degree heater hoses and cut those off to fit, walla a water cross over for an olds. also finished fixing the grille shell up and bead blasted it getting it ready for body work.

 

been working alot on both the 34s, got a bunch of stuff done on this one today, got the stainless firewall panel cut out and painted behind it and reinstalled it, got he heads back on the motor, got the dash all fully welded and ground, floors finish welded and seam sealed in etc etc.

 

got more stuf done, motor is all together and painted, got the grille and dash bodyworked, primed, based and cleared today too, gonna start bolting it all together tomorrow. also got the floors all painted up yesterday too and painted teh frame up where the xmember was repair, and put the carb back on but havent gotten to many pics of that yet.

heres a few more pics before we carted it off to gsta and in my display at the GSTA

 

Been super busy and havent had time to post many pics, or even take many pics, we fired it up today and it seems to run pretty good. All the brakes lines are done and brakes are all rebuilt and bled, clutch set up it all done and working, wiring is all done including all the gauges etc etc, got the gas tank done the other day (ill get some pics of that tomorrow) and have it all mounted too, so its getting really close, we are planning on bringing it to Torque fest on friday.

well we got it on the road, im gonna do an update with pics and a video soon here, got back from torque fest late late saturday night, unfortunately we had to trailor it down to the shop, but we unloaded it at the hotel and drove it form there to the show so we got a few miles on it, we just ran out of time to road worthy it and didnt want to take a chance on hurting anything on the motor. it was the same thing with my hemi powered 34 coupe.

Question for you. Is that a drivers side manifold on the passenger side? How does the exhaust work with the oil filter (or starter if it's been relocated)?

 

the manifolds are in their stock location as far as i know, it has a oil filter bypass on it with the starter relocator and it all fits fine.

 

I saw this little truck at torque fest, and the 34 too. Looking great.

 

Many of us NEWBYS to the hot rod scene did not build cars very well in the late 50's and 60's as we were LEARNING from the little books!!!! Page by page. Most of us had to find someoe with a welder or a torch. Many bodies were just dropped and holes drilled in the frame and the bodies just bolted on. Not correct nor safe by any means!!!! But we had a dream. We found an old car or truck like those in the little book and we liked it and imagined our driving around town in it. A LOT of those dreams were never accomplished. Just dreams. You have found one of those cars!!! Now finish it into REALITY!!!

That's what I was thinking. Too bad that both sides weren't front dump like the drivers side is... That's what I need.

 

Chad has been driving the truck regularily, there was an engine issue, seems the rings in on cylinder decided to give out so they were replaced the motor runs good, he had it out to Back to the Fifties, and lately to the Minneapolis Messaround.

 

Nice. Was cringing until I saw you polishing the firewall. I have a thing for flat firewalls...hate them....unless polished or engine turned !! That thing looks better then ever, but of course.....you already know !! On with the show........thank you.
