Where did you get the rubber (?) firewall pad?

The firewall pad is a reproduction, cotton insulation, black cardboard, and rubber strip along the bottom. From Classic Industries.

This is a kind of strange build, because I'm restoring the car back to original, on the stock parts of it that I'm keeping. The idea is to make it look like it was built into a race car when it was almost new.

A 2 circuit system is only as good as the backup of it's primary. Together they're one, less than that is just less. Make sence?

I've been driving with single master cylinders for decades, they haven't killed me yet. FWIW, the hand brake works on the Chevy II.

Trimmed the front fenders to clear the tires. Quite a bit of the stuff on the engine is connected...but no exhaust, wiring, or fuel yet. A few pics for your entertainment.

    Thanks again!

I took some stuff apart to do more work. I finally got the front shocks mounted, and added the snubbers between the frame and spring. Cleaned and painted some of the front parts, and swapped the smaller blower pulley onto the bottom. Now it's 3% over, which should get me around 6 or 7 psi boost, I think. This engine is 435 cubes, the one in the 55 that the blower was on previously is 454, not much difference. I got about 5 psi up here in 4500 ft Sierra Vista with the 55 at 3% over.

I also spent quite a bit of time today figuring out what parts to buy, mainly for the brakes and fuel plumbing. I also put the fuel pickup into the tank. The tank is a new repop stock unit, and I decided to just put a 1/2" pickup tube in it, about 1/3 way back. The bottom of the tank slants forward...so I guess I need to keep half a tank or more of fuel in it when I'm racing, so it won't starve. I am going to run 1/2" aluminum hard line from the pump to the firewall, and there it will have the regulator and two braided lines running to the carbs. I am using nickel plated AN fittings, they are not quite period correct, but they're not too obnoxious like the red/blue ones. If I didn't have to meet NHRA rules, I'd run a lot of normal rubber fuel line, but they only let you use 6 inches total on the whole car.

spy shot of the pickup tube and sender inside the tank. I checked the sender with an ohm meter after I installed it, it gets 0 ohms empty, 30 ohms full.

I'll see how this thing works....here goes nothing.

I've been working on the fuel system, wiring, brake plumbing, and the headers. Fuel is done, brakes are half done, wiring is started. One header is almost done, I just need to paint it. Time now to get the doors painted on the inside, and hung. Pretty soon it will look like an almost finished race car. progress34.jpg progress35.jpg progress37.jpg fuel02.jpg wiring01.jpg headers08.jpg wiring02.jpg

    Thanks!

Header, for the driver side. Haven't even started on the other one yet, but I have the experience of having built one header in my life now, so it should be a little easier.

    Thanks!

A few shots of the header installed in the car. And I painted some more "inside" stuff red...so I get to install it.

Try finding an aftermarket automatic transmission shifter from 1966...that's not an Ansen, one with a real gate. They don't exist, except for the Hydro Stick. Mine is a copy of a picture of a B&M Turbo Stick. Like the Hydro Stick, but for a Turbo Hydramatic 400. I have a picture of one...but I don't know if they really sold them.
