    Meltdown Update...Meltdown Update!

All, this is Jeff Koopmeiners, the younger and more handsome brother of Eric Koopmeiners with an update on the Meltdown Drags.

We are 78 days from the Meltdown Drags, which is the highlight of the summer, and year, for many of us who read this thread.

We currently have over 375 cars pre-registered for the event. WOW! Here is a little teaser of what you can expect to see at the event:

Close to 50 coupes, sedans, trucks and roadsters from the 20's and 30's
Over 20 coupes, sedans and trucks from the 30's and 40's
Over 30 Willys, YES, over 30 Willys Gassers
    Almost 10 Henry J's
    Almost 10 Fiats and Anglias
    Over 15 Dragsters
    Over 5 Altereds and Bantams
    Over 75 gassers from 55 to 57
Over 30 other gassers from the 50's
    Over 10 AWB's
Over 100 gasser from the 60's

If you are wondering where people are coming from, we currently have cars coming from over half of the country and Canada. Yes, cars are coming from 26 states and Canada. We could just say 27 states and since Canada wishes they could become one.:D

    What else:

Isky and Bones will be in attendance
The goodie bags for the first 400 pre-registered racers are looking impressive, including a new commemorative Meltdown beer
The shirts and other commemorative items are going to be better than ever
You can cruise your car to Sam's Drive In for dinner
Friday will have a "North vs South" shootout
Saturday is the Great Lakes Gasser vs Nostalgic Gassers Racing Association Shootout
Sunday is B'z Rods (local hot rod shop) shootout and possibly another shootout
The Gopher State Timing Association will be brining their vintage FEDs
    See vintage motorcylce drags
Meltdown Pin-Up Girl contest sponsored by Gears and Gals Magazine on Saturday
Wisconsin Hot Rod Radio will be on site
Gasser Wars Magazine will be on site
A local model car club will be holding a "build and take" event on site to introduce kids to the great hobby of building model cars
You can win a front engine dragster. Yes, we are giving away a FED
If I didn't specificially mention you...sorry, we have a lot going on.

So, what do you need to do?

Get your car ready for the event. Get some test and tune laps in before the event. BE SAFE!
Tell your friends who are waffling about coming. If guys can bring their cars 20 hours one way, it is time to tell them to man up!
Dont have a race car, bring your show car. We have one of the best car shows that includes a great view of the track.
Don't have a show car, bring your old parts to sell. It is the cheapest swap meet space anywhere (only your price of admission of $15)
Don't have stuff to sell, get your butt off of the couch and come
Now that you are off the couch, bring some friends
Don't have friends, come and make some new ones

Lastly, this event is special because it is put on by hot rodders and racers for hot rodders and racers. This is a non-profit event with the sole intent of making one weekend a year incredibly special. Entry fees go the track to ensure the longevity of the Byron Dragway for the next generation to have a place to race. There are no attitudes at this event because the people who come are there for something special.

Don't let the next 78 days catch you by suprise...get to work and we look forward to seeing you in July.

    The Meltdown Drags Association.

We are goin to have an official beer sponsor for the Meltdown this year and I will be asking all of you to support that brand by buying some beer in Byron as you make your way to the event.

The track does not have a beer/liquor license, so we were lucky to get a beer sponsor to help us put on the event. Being that we are all loyal to those who support our cause, I know everyone will help and buy our sponsors beer on the way to the event.

    THanks.

What's the deal with camping at the track??

  28. You can camp at the track. No additional cost. The is one shower and a clean bathroom. All camping is primitive.

Are they letting people in on Thursday night?

  30. Gates will be open at 1pm Thursday. Nothing going on and the track is not racing until Friday. It should be fun just hanging out and meeting everyone.
