photo (4).jpg photo (9).jpg photo (19).jpg photo (31).jpg This is my brother's old '55 Chevy. Mike was killed in a crash in his Model A coupe, back in 2004. A couple of years later, I purchased the car from his son & step-son. I added the lettering, as well as the tires & wheels, as a tribute to my brother. Mike's step-son had installed a set of Rod Lites (as a friend of my said, "never let a kid dress an old man!". The car is powered by a SBC with dual 4bbl carbs, Muncie 4 speed, and a '57 Chevy 4.10 posi rear. I'm ready to replace the rear with a '57 Pontiac version (posi,3.90, Strange axles).

Here is my 20 year project. Finished in 2013, it now has been driven 6500 miles. 406 small block, TPI, 700R4 and posi rear end. More fun than I imagined to drive.

  4. 4ever18 - Nice! Sorry about your bro. That rear swap is a good idea. The Chevy rear might not last long with slicks & traction bars.

You have the car looking "Spot-On" !
Well done, your brother and family should be very, very proud.

I would love to see more pictures of the car if you can direct me to where I may find them.

  8. Sorry for your loss, I'm very close to my brothers, and can't imagine what you've been through. My dad always said, "those Tri-5 rear ends must have come from Laura Scudders, cause they're made of pressed potato chips"

Thanks, guys, for the condolences. Mike and I were best friends, as well as brothers. It's funny that as kids, we fought like cats & dogs. The most vicious fist fights I ever had were with him, but by the time we were in our late teens we were best friends.:)

There are a few more photos of his '55 on my profile page's photo album entitled "my cars".

A few years before we lost Mike, I offered to give him a complete rear from a '59 Ford stationwagon that I'd been saving for '57 Chevy project. Mike refused it, saying "I'm not putting any Ford parts on my Chevy!". Mike liked the early Ford bodies, but wouldn't hear of using any Ford drivetrain parts! Knowing this, there is no way that I could even consider installing anything but a GM rear in the car. Initially, I was considering narrowing an Impala 12 bolt for the car - But then I remembered that "back in the day", THE rearend of choice was the '57 - '64 Pontiac/Olds rear! This will be the perfect selection for his car - it's a GM product, it's old 60's style, and it's as tough as they come!

I'll soon be adding a single hoop rollbar to the car, to complete the look.

Again, thank you for the kind remarks and condolences.

  13. I think that's what I meant.

  14. I'd like to know more about the car also. Does anybody know the owner? I'd like to know the wheel & tire size in the rear.

I vote pro street with late 80s billet wheels and all the chrome painted body color. Tweed interior too.
