I'm quickly coming to realize just how hard it is to make this big engine look at home in this car. I was paying a lot of attention this weekend to how they set height wise vs. cowl, grill, frame rails. Being that this car is a bastard and just semi channeled I had nothing to go by.
As with most things I didn't get it right the first time. Yesterday what I thought looked ok haunted me all night and day long. So here I go cutting it up again...

I cut the engine mounts a few times until I thought it set right, wound up lowering the engine 1"1/4.
The pictures don't do it justice, it's much better. As I've said before I'm learning as I go, and it is amazing what just a few inches (or less) can do for the looks of a car.

    Very nice.
To your point, there is a lot to be learned as far as motor position. I wanted the gasser look....and got it. BUT, with a rake of 8* front to back, keeping fuel in the front jets at launch is a bitch. So, just as a bit of advice, keep working on keeping the carbs as level as you can. I start working on wedges to level mine tomorrow.

    Good luck to you!!!

The Little hemi is home from the machine shop. I had it shot peened and magnafluxed. I was thinking about ordering some internals for this thing and decided to go ahead and crack check before I throw a ton of money at it.

It's all good and ready for build.
It looks like it would hone pretty good, but wouldn't be perfect so I guess I'll bore it .30, don't really want to but I need pistons anyway.

A little powder coat on the engine mounts and all my work is gone...

It's an old magnum drop axle up front and a posies spring... Wanted a narrow front end... Yep, all aftermarket junk.

I'm hoping I can get the pipes all finished up this week...

Bad news is, as I suspected there is no way I'm running my f-1 box with these headers. So it looks like vega or cowl steering. I've never been a big fan of cowl steering, but I got to personally see the Hilton's coupe with the blown olds at roundup and it didn't bother me a bit..

So I've got some thinking, and research to do...

Those tapered collectors AND curved headpipes are the cat's ass!
Are those Speedway kitted headers, or from whence do they come, Kid?

Nice progress, I hungrily devoured it all in one sitting! Amazing...not one mistake!
Well, I do concede with raising the former channel a bit. Glad you did that. Most would just leave it...It looks great now.

I've been doing this for 50 years, and changed the Hemi engine mounts in my '27 Hiboy 3 times. (and I set it all up first, too! LOL)

Keep it up, you're going straight as a string.

Thanks y'all, Atwater mike the parts for the pipes came from Matt at Geardrive. He's an alliance vendor on here. Nice guy and super helpful. I will admit that I screwed up the other side... Cut one of the holes in the wrong spot. No big deal though I just need another cone and I'll get it fixed... They sure aren't easy... Thanks for watching...

Sub-scribed! Great lookin coupe and I LOVE the early hemis. I've been holding on to a '56 354 for years but just can't seem to get started on it. You've inspired me to finally do something with it, as soon as I get the flathead tweaked and the V-12 running.

Mike in Atwater I just read your biography and think I may have a new hero. Wow. Cutting up untouchables at 13 years old! I got started in this hobby way to late.

Thank you sir... Hopefully this week I'll get some intake flanges cut, and can start building it.

I'm sure your getting tired of this, and I am too, but that wheel well bothered me too much, thought I could handle it but I couldn't.
So I picked the body up a few more inches, I love it though...

Of course that's just day dreaming... They are still empty and all need rebuilds... Oh and I don't think that's where they bolt down...

Shifter on tranny... I won't lie to you, when no one is watching I sit down next to it, run through all the gears over and over making awesome engine noises....

  27. Well, after looking at those beautiful headers, I'm sure that could be where they bolt on if you want them too! Something along the lines of a U Fab intake.

That's the plan... And thank you for the compliment. However Matt at lakeheaders/Geardrive doesn't keep the parts anymore... So it looks like its up to me, going to send some intake gaskets to the water jet house, have some flanges made and go from there...
