As an art student in the 70s, I studied Von Dutchs work. This is a fake, and not a very good one at that!
Don't think Von Dutch started pinstriping. He may have brought into the car culture. I do now that my grandfather was doing striping and gold leaf work for the Pullman car co. (Pullman R.R.Cars) back in the 20's
You got that right Flat n Low I'm very lucky to have 1 of his guns in my safe that I got from him back in the day. Most don't have a clue of the many other things Ken was capable of creating
I attended the Von Dutch pinstiping college and graduated, got a diploma and certified definitely fake
I think he meant exactly that. Von Dutch started doing the crazy stuff thru a medium that was previously used as decorative outlines and long accent lines etc.
Yes, I meant to imply that he was the first to create intricate, stand alone designs (as opposed to straight line accent lines that were used since the buggy days).
Didn't Ken Howard stripe some fire engines prior to laying down 'fineline' on cars? Seems to me I recall his Dad being a sign painter, and doing some detail work on Fire engines (in one of the Los Angeles hamlets...Gardena?) I met him at the San Jose Autorama in '56, he talked to us...we concluded that he was a 'beatnik'. (he made an effort to answer in riddles, etc.) Nice, though...polite. We were 15-year-old wiseasses. LOL
Wait,,,, my brothers neighbor's aunt slept with a guy that knew von dutch and studied, and collects his work, and the aunt says it is von dutch's work .
