Well I gave up on winning the lottery and I had to sell my '33 pickup, but this car is now in my shop. It has been in covered storage since '68 or so. It is solid as a rock with only a little front floor repair needed. It appears to have some drag strip history; lots of leaves in the front spring and a mystery rear axle on buggy spring with '36 wishbones. There is no butchery on the frame whatsoever. Does anyone know what that rear end is? It has a huge nut on the axle stub.
My plans are to apply the KISS factor. Chassis engineering front to back with a '62 327 and Turbo 350, 8 or 9" rear. Steelie wheels, big n little wide whites and some full hubcaps. The body will be left as is and I hope to be driving it in about a year.

It's a '40 Standard. Grille, hood, and entire rest of the car.

  8. Always check the windshield to see if it opens and the location of the wipers to tell a 39 from a 40

Vent windows in the door glass also distinguish a '40. Great car, congrats!

Nice 40, your hood gaps are perfect at the cowl,I'm a little jealous.
    Enjoy the ride.

A rare find for sure in this day and age.

How did you find the car?

Best of luck with it. Jimbo

That's a 40 standard grille. Easy way to tell a '39 from a '40. Wipers on the 39 are above the windsheild because the windsheild was still able to open.
39 converts and all 40's have wipers on the cowl.

Nice find, and the body-paint look nice! That's the kind of patina worth saving! Whereabouts in Oregon are you located? Must be the dry side to find one that solid!

Nice. Looks good, clean and solid. IMHO the 40 coupe is 2nd only to the 32 Coupe as far as Holy Grail hot rods.. ;) The 40 coupe has been on my bucket list for decades.. Someday...

I'm a little biased, but how could you go wrong with a '40 coupe? Iconic hot rod. I've been a fan of 'em all my life.

That's a great looking car, especially when it's on your have to have list.

I'd agree with the rest of the guys in that without photos of the rear axle it's self it is near impossible to tell what it is. If it has a drop out center it may be Mopar if the bolt pattern goes 5 on 4-1/2.
