This weekend was probably the shortest trip I've had to a car show in my life, being that I worked Friday and didn't get to leave until after lunch to head south. This thread won't be as long as my previous ones have been. I probably only covered half the show and it sucks seeing what I missed out on. I wasn't in a walking mood, I guess you could say.. Haha. I think I was more focused on saying hi to all my friends. Nevertheless, I had a blast and can't wait for 2015..

Thank you, Continentals, for putting on such a great show!

One of my favorite things at the show to study was Brian Bass' roadster.. But this time, knowing it's been used (and abused) since he got it on the road. Brian Bass is without a doubt, one of the most influential hot rodders of our generation and to see something that he has built for himself personally showing its fair share of wear and tear was kind of an unreal feeling. Knowing that this car is being used and driven everywhere brought a newfound sense of appreciation for what he does with his own cars.

If you know me personally, you would know I despise rat rods. But there was something about this one that made me think it was more of a hot rod than a rat rod. But it doesn't look like one. I don't want to get into a debate over what constitutes a hot rod/rat rod or the differences between them. But this one had all the elements of a hot rod without the shock factor that most of them carry. Maybe this one is better off categorized as a "finished rat rod" but that's an oxymoron. Still, it was nice to see what one would look like painted, with a tasteful array of parts without using roached out diesel truck parts and spider webs. A little too low in the back for my tastes, but there were plenty of show cars in the '60's that were this low.

Lone Star Round-Up 2014 - The Show - Part Two

If you go through my thread from LSRU last year, you would see that Flat-Top Bob had an unfinished Buick in his shop in Wellington. Well, Bob finished his Buick and brought it out to the show. It was drop-dead gorgeous. I couldn't take my eyes off it. I only wish the sun was out so that paint could pop. It was an amazing hue of blue/green.

To me, that's hardly a rat. Not really traditional, but I dig the heck out of it.
