I have always loved skirts...however, I chose to leave them on, as well as remove them for a change on my '49 Chevy build. Liked to change wheel coves too....
Here is a picture of them on, as well as off during the build.

That's nice. I hope you sold them or gave them away and did not literally discard them? Every person's "unwanted junk" is someone else's "must-have treasure!"
I hate plenty of other accessories and I am always more than happy to pass them along to someone who likes them.

I agree. Whether a person likes accessories or not, actually throwing them away is like flushing money down the crapper.

It's not just the money you're throwing away, it's the permanent loss of the part (whatever it may be) forever. Every part I've ever stripped off of a car I gave or sold to someone who was restoring the same kind of car and was thrilled to have it. (Even when it was a car I didn't think was worth restoring!)

Occasionally I do throw something away as a last resort if I have no room for it and can't find anyone who wants it, but even then I clearly label it with a hang tag so the trash guys can salvage it if they want to!

  13. I have a rusty pair of skirts that came in a pile of other parts. I was told they're '51 Pontiac. I've tried to sell them with no luck. I'll give them away before I throw them away, or I'll paint something on them and make them into garage art. NO old parts get junked, ever.

Or on any Mopar 1957 or later. Or Mustang. Ever.

The key with skirts is stance and flow. A 55 Merc looks incomplete without skirts, but if the ass end is even slightly higher than the front, it just looks stupid with skirts.

Long, low, and slow is the way to go.

I would agree with you on this in principle, but I have no doubt that someone on the HAMB has a photo of one that looks great! (Or, worse yet, one that looks terrible but posts a photo and I'm too nice to say "Yeah, but your car is ugly!")

There was a cheeseass in this town with a '40 Ford Coupe. Big and littles, nice rake ...
Then he put a pair of skirts on it. (with the RAKE!) Oh, it looked like poop.

The more criticism he got, the more steadfast he got in leaving it that way.
He got deep in financial hannenframmis and had to sell the '40. Many of us were relieved.
The new owner removed the skirts the first day he got it.

Those skirts went onto a '39 Tudor in Modesto. Real low, back lower. Real sharp.
