History '41-48 Fords as HOT RODS

There's a post in the traditional customs forum for these as customs, but were all of them done that way? But you do see these as Hot Rods once in a while, anybody building/own one with more of a performance flavor? They didn't ALL get chopped and lowered...

And I'm not just talking about gassers, but big 'n littles, pie crusts, louvers, 4-speeds, well you get the idea.... Let's see some pics!

 

I had a thread about 46-48 fords as hot rods awhile back. It was titled 42-48 ford hot rods, lets see some pics. Interestingly enough though I succumbed to the custom look and now its a chopped, flatty powered tail dragger instead.

I know I'll catch some shit but back in the day around here hot rods were generally considered 1940 and older and 1941 and up were just considered old cars no matter how they were done.. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a 1948 short door coupe...

Got one in the garage right now- Hot Rodded in the 70's- going to get a total frame off starting with May disassembly-

 

I consider my 41 with a 454 a hot rod. Some might say custom rod. Whichever is fine by me. I know the title says 46-48 but the body style is the same for 41 & 42.

 

I am doing a 48 coupe 50s period Hot Rod-stick shift flatty bigs n littles...nice and simple

 

My 46....I like it...Lowered..Flatty... WWW... straight 1 3/4 pipes...no mufflers..Kool

 

Yep, that says 'hot rod' to me also. Some 'mild custom' element is going to creep in, but I'm looking for cars that say 'performance' more than 'custom'. I realize that 'back in the day' most rodders went for the lighter earlier cars, but that's no reason you can't have a 'traditional' build on one of these...

And I edited the title to include the 41-42 cars, as they are essentially the same car..

 

This is my dads '48, bagged with wide 5's. Running a 331 Chevy with auto.

 

My first recollection of a hotrod is a 46 Ford business coupe with a 39 trans adapted to a nailhead Buick. It was my cousins and he said that he had removed all the 39 Ford trans in SE Penna junk yards. and this was in the early 60s!! It was most assuredly a hotrod. Vertex magneto and all. He loved to hear the pipes echo in the underpasses below the Penna. RR tracks in 2nd gear.

 

Much like Hot Rod Surfer's, my 46 is 50s period Hot Rod as well.

 

Looks like Maroon is the color choice too!!!

Here's my beater. Put this together out of junk with my pops when I was in high school. Mostly stock 59L flatty hooked up to a 39 box on its fourth set of gears. Had a ball with it in high school. Enough room for all my buddy's and their girls! Soon as I get my rpu done this one is getting a frame off with a drop axle, big and littles, a built 57 t bird 312 with 3-2s and a real paint job. Just a nice late 50s build. I always wanted to throw a coupe body on it but over the years the sedan body has grown on me.

As a hot rod, my favorite is Fat Jack Robinson's orange coupe

 

Does mine count? Bone stock flattie, 3 speed on the column. Soon to get new red interior.
"Henry" has looked this way since the early 80's

 

41-48s weigh about the same as a first gen. Camaro... The air inside a big 'ol Tudor sedan doesn't weigh anything.

Mine is a '48 with 351 Windsor power (go figure, a Ford engine!), C6, 9" rear. I have had it for 10 years. This shot was taken 4 years ago at the NSRA show in Okla City. And for Crazy Steve, in this cars' history, the previous owner actually ran it at El Mirage (126+ MPH) and at LACR. Either of those performance enough for ya?

 

Mine is a 48 with 351W, C4, 9"

 

Here's my 41 sedan. Its all ford 351 Fmx trans 8" rear end. I've had it about 5 years now its still in white epoxy primer, but I love driving it.

 

I guess as long as others are mentioning how long they have had their cars I might as well also. I bought the car as a running driving 48 Merc powered, velour interior, old hot rod in 92. I drove it for 2 months and took it totally apart. It came back out in 97 completely redone with the chop, BBC etc. It has been across the country east to west and north to south and now has 89,000+ mi. It was off the road for exactly two years because I hit a deer in 02 and wiped out the entire front.

 

Man, wha an outright bitchin, machine.

 

Think mine fits the bill.
She will light the pie crust with ease!!
