Features Saw this yesterday and still can't believe it

I think the whole issue that many, including myself had, was that the guy's kids were dressed in rags while the old man went out and bought a car any time he had two nickels in his pocket to rub together.

Most people just skimmed through and completely missed the point: The property owner is a dick for hoarding cars while his kids went without.

 

Well said. I would say 2 things more. No one really knows this guy so thoughts that his kids suffered because he horded cars is a bit one sided to say the least.

The thought with your response which came to mind is the Reno Air Racers which molest WWII airplanes for racing........They have often been badmouthed....but in the process, the interest they created in the WWII airplanes has brought serious interest and money into high dollar restorations where people have one by one resorted rare aircraft. In some cases 1 or 2 examples of aircraft existed and now due the interest 25-100 fine airworthy examples exist.

I flew into an airport years ago in Ohio. It was a single airstrip with the airport manager living in a trailer at the end of the airstrip. While hanging around I got to see an airplane he rescued. It had been wrecked and abandoned. He started with a pile of unrecognized metal and rebuilt every piece of it to create a pristine restored aircraft.

He was finishing the aircraft when I visited. I do not know what ever came of the aircraft but even at the time the....A model P51 was worth over a million in it's rarity and worth far more now. I got the impression he was going to enjoy it for a little while the sell it.



Just a guy in a trailer. I make no assumptions of anyone. I grew up well, but I grew up working in a dirty hardware store. No I was not dressed nice. The values I gained were worth more then money and I always had anything I needed and more; even though some might not have gotten that impression.

I say bring the guy here and let him share his side! I would rather hear his side then speculation.

What is very interesting is when someone speculates something negative about the owner(myself included) we get flamed for speculating! The defenders speculate what a good guy he is! You say he saved these cars from the scrapper!! How do you know that! If he did not get them maybe (speculating) some one else would have and fixed the up and be on the road!!(Nobody knows). One thing is for sure, those cars and trucks are sitting and wasting away!! You say better than the scrapper? Same thing!! Just takes longer!! Pete

 

Maybe he is saving up cars for the next lambrecht style auction.

 

Hey now, lets not let logic and reason get involved here. The owner is a patriot who is protecting these cars from falling into the hands of Socialists and car restorers

 

Sounds cool, I'll keep an eye out for it. Probably be ten years until it gets to free-to-air here though.
