Happy Birthday, Chip! Let's see now...pork...green...chili...stew? Hmmmmm...? Sounds...ah...different. An adventure, yeah that's it. One of Judy's traditional family recipes, perhaps? If it's not a big secret, how about passing it along?

Thanks gang! Missy's dad, I just wrote the whole damn thing down, hit the wrong key and erased it all. I'll hit it again before bed when some of the celebratory Gin and Tonic allows finger coordination again...

Turns out MORE Gin and Tonic is the answer to easier and steadier typing!:D So, again we try...

Go down to the local Mercado el Grande and get yourself the following:

6-8 lbs of pork shoulder with bones... The cheapest stuff the butcher has will be just hunky-dory.
6-8 Big green chilies - fresh and in season are the watchwords here.
1 lg can of Pinto Beans
1 lg can of Black Beans
3-4 Jalapenos ( Judy actually uses some wacky assed Chinese chilies that are fully capable of curling your toes)
    1 can pealed tomatoes

So, ya take this whole mess and dump it into a large crock pot with the exception of the tomatoes. fill the balance up with water to just below the rim, set it on medium and let it go all day! I kid you not, all day! When you come back to it, the meat will have fallen off the bones, so do the search and rescue thing and fish them out, then dump the tomatoes in and cook a bit more for a couple more hours. I usually do one more search and rescue and find any of the chili skins, do some course ground pepper and salt, maybe a bit of Cayenne pepper (or smoked habanero?) and you are done! That last couple of hours I generally do with the top off to thicken it up a bit, but I don't go too far as Miss Judy likes it a bit soupier. Done! And, you'll eat it for the next week, too, 'cause it's even tastier the second night, and it freezes well too. Actually, anything you can think of savory and Mexican/southwestern can be dumped in this too. I made some a couple months back with some hominy in it and it was killer.

Oh, and those bones you took out? Ya, those. Well those things have the great taste to them, and the marrow that is left is awesome to suck out. We end up gnawing on them too... Bunch of heathens in this house!

Judy was looking at me sideways last night 'cause I was singing that as I dished up dinner! "How can know a song for too much pork? What the herr wrong with you?!"

Dude! Take your time, the recipe that I posted makes about ten meals for the average couple, and it gets better each time... It'll be around a bit, and your welcome any time!!!

Thanks gang! This is the big 50, leaving the forties behind. I don't feel any different, so it's just keepin' on as a rule.

I'm heading out to Good Guys a bit late, so I'll get my cruise in, do some kissing of hands and shaking of babbies, home to get some mailing done, then a big G&T.... Such is the good life!

Dude you are 50? Watch out, I just turned in January, and my aches and pains have increased tenfold! Have another G&T just in case.

Nah, see I did it differently! I worked so hard at screwing myself up early on skateboarding and crashing cars and bikes and stuff, that I'm used to the pain! See, it's called "conditioning"!!!

Thanks gang so much for the birthday bump this year. it's 50 of them for me, and if I'm like everybody else in my family, I'm about half way through. See, it seems it's just about impossible to kill a Minnesota Swede...
