Technical engine differences

    Is there any difference between a 48 ford and a 48 mercury engine?
    casting nos.? serial nos.? paint colors?
    thanks for any help.

    yes there is, google differences,, several...you'll be reading for a while...


    Just put differences : 48 ford/mercury

    '48 Ford- '48 Merc, same engine, same color, same casting numbers (59A), same cubic inch. '49, now that's a different story.

    don't think so, Ford was 85 hp, Merc was 100hp for one thing.

    The last 85 hp (221") Ford was '42; the '46-'48 Fords and Mercs were the same 100 hp 239"s.
    The '48 truck engines are different, as they were the new 8BA/8RT design.

    yeah, the 4" crank was in '49 merc. the 48's were the same.
