    SURE! What could go wrong??

  3. I find it odd that anyone should think that only a single person (no commitments) should consider driving a "dangerous vehicle"!
I've done some crazy things in my life, but I've never stood and looked at a machine of any type, said to myself, "I'm going to kill myself doing this, but it is alright because I don't have any children.
WTF !!!!! Other than those which are suicidal, no one expects to die at any particular time while driving in competition.
I think we have a lot of armchair wannabes here!
Would I drive it? I'd have to look it over pretty careful, maybe sit in it a while before I could make up my mind. Being two inches or two feet off the road won't make much difference if you start to cartwheel in an open car with no rollbar or seatbelts.

I have to admit that I would be so cranked up when I climbed into it,that it would feel like there was electricity in my skin.
It's impossible to NOT get wound up about something like that!

But there is no way in hell I could turn down a spot in the drivers seat of something so utterly awesome.

I'd feel like Slim Pickens riding that nuke in 'Doctor Strangelove'! :)

I've run some karts with seat pan close to ground ...After the first few scrapes you get used to it..Metal pans handle more scraping better cause they deform more than they wear; glass seats however wear very fast and when you feel little pricks in your butt its time to stop or else..The dragster I would have had my doubts unless I could see the pan was thick enough for one hit, but the angle would worry me more..I'd let some one go ahead of me...

  11. Eugene "Red" Case was the big balled fella behind the wheel alright http://dragstripdeaths.webs.com/195059.htm

Would I have a go, hell yea but it would take quite a few practise runs to get up the nerve to put the hammer down, shit some go karts do 100mph and your arse is closer to the ground than that car, albeit not by a hell of a lot though..

id drive it...once. Hopefully I would make it out alive. Looking at the bigger picture I realized, what happens if you happen to hit a small bump? shear your ass off or fly out of the seat?

I don't understand why such fear. If it had a belly tank body around it everyone would jumping at it for a ride. What makes people think it would crash at the touch of the throttle?

It's a weird one and the close-up sure makes it look sketchy. In 1986 "Diamond Dave"
Miller drove a 200" wb r.e.d. that looked mighty odd compared to the 280 inchers.
There was a little more space between Dave and the motor than what we see here.

A real racer neither would nor could understand why anyone would ask such an illogical question in the first place!

Does it have brakes, or do I have to put my boots on the tires?

You probably would. My sidecar (avatar) only runs in the mid 130s but its a hoot and I can only imagine that car would an even greater hoot.
