Freaking dig those clamps! I need to get some of those!!

I'm really excited to get your tub and my pickup together sometime this summer. The little details between the two will be amazing. I almost got the firestone clamps originally but didn't want my clamps to match my tires...I know...weird...it makes me happy seeing someone else as crazy as me...

Nothing insane about that at all. I think people that dont go for that level of detail and finish are the crazy ones. If you put regular old hose clamps on that car they would stick out like a sore thumb.........it's the small things like those clamps that will set your ride apart from the also-rans.

Man, I love all the bits!

 

Details like the hose clamps and hardware is what makes the difference in a "Period Correct" car. Its a little like restoring an original car for judging. WELL DONE!

 

After a hiatus on the tub, this came in yesterday...


So I spent yesterday afternoon in the upholstery shop. Ahem, I mean, living room...


...I got the front bottom seat cushion done. Not perfect, but I guess it'll do. It has had a day to 'relax' so we'll see if it does any more. If so, I'll do a bit more stretching and hog-ringing. Now just gotta get the front seat back done. Maybe this'll motivate me to get back to it...

 

Wait for one of those mark it on the calender tacyoma days when the suns shines hot enough to burn you and lay them out in the sun to get good and warm.

 

Good idea! I guess I'll be waiting for one of those warm days...

Use a heat gun when pulling & tugging for the hog rings. You'll git thet cover tighter than Aunt Tillie's hat band.

You sure have influenced my '27 Tub with this project...Love the use of all the genie parts!
'32 spring perches...stretched and dropped axle, and the fit of the mechanicals...
The shelf mod and use of the aprons are in great taste.

If you dragged that 4 speed home, I would love to buy that bellhousing. ('hogshead')

 

You sir are going to end up having one very nice Phaeton to be cruising in with your new family. I wanted to make a Banger Hill Climber Special - but was also Furloughed and got the "free break" courtesy our president.

Now retired so on to enjoying life and having the time to do it !

Just checking in with a few updates.

Got the re-wiring done. The car is now wired exactly as stock, but with one addition, a leg to power my fuel pump.

And since I mention it, I'm running an electric fuel pump. Until I find a suitable period pump, I'm just running a little carter inline type, hidden well out of sight between the back of the upper firewall and the cowl tank.

And since I'm running that pump on a switched leg, I had to track down what I think are the coolest old-timey toggle switches...



One will be going in a new gauge panel, but more on that at a later date.

Other than that it has been prime, sand, prime, sand, clamp, sand, prime, sand. And last night I finally ordered paint.

Then,this morning I started on the firewall:



...nothing fancy. Just good ol' Rustoleum. After a few coats, with wet sanding in between, and after, it should look good. Good enough for a firewall.

Hey time for color !

 

Nice color! Looking great! I like the details you have created!

 

Well, yes, color is here. The final color decision, after months of guessing and second-guessing color chips is a Dark Blue main body, similar to Washington Blue, but maybe a shade or two darker, and Black Splash-Aprons, Belt-Line, Firewall, and Fenders.

...yes, I said fenders. But no, they aren't going on the car. Yet. I'm getting them pretty so I have the option to throw them on for those 11 months out of the year that the PNW isn't sunny.

But, I'm not quite ready to put color on the body. Still more blocking of the body (two pinholes showed up in my primer on the cowl, dammit), and final tweak and installation of the body wood before real paint starts slinging.

...but all that expensive paint sitting on the shelf should be good motivation.

On a more successful front, the firewall got its last of four coats of Gloss-Black Rustoleum last night. I'm gonna let it set for a few days before buffing it out. And, if it stops raining anytime soon, I should have the splash aprons in shiny black (non-Rustoleum) in the next few days.
